Captain D's — Restaurant in Durham

I've been a loyal customer at this establishment for over 15 years, yesterday was my last visit. I was confronted by an employee for getting their carpet door mat by the front door dirty. When she saw the door mat she yelled out so the entire store could hear "who got my door mat dirty ?!" I ignored her not willing to engage in such childish banter. When I walked to the front counter to get my food she confronted me angrily and loudly saying "you was the one who got my door mat dirty, what's wrong with you ?!". I proceeded to tell her that I work in construction and the floor mat is there for wiping dirty feet. She disagreed and I told her "if I had not wiped my feet I would have tracked dirt through the entire store", and she got even more angry. During this interaction the other employee did nothing but chuckle the entire time and the store manager/owner who has worked there since I first started visiting this store 15 years ago was making orders in the back (he was visible through the kitchen pass/window opening) and did not say a word to his employee. You just lost yourself a loyal customer because of your loud mouthed childlike employee that you refused to correct. Good luck with your business, you'll need it with the way you let your employees talk...

I've been coming to Captain D's since 1975 the one on 54/55 I can tell a change over the years I am a white person and they are very much discriminatory anytime I have went through the drive-thru the last three or four years I have waited to wait almost anywhere from 35 to 45 minutes for an order anybody in front of me has ordered and gotten their order within five to 10 minutes I was married to a black man and when I would take him with me in line we were out of there in 10 minutes now when I would go by myself I was in and out of there within 45 for an hour I hate to say this about a business but they are definitely discriminatory against white people I love Captain D's and I have patronus this business for years since I was a little girl and this really disappoints me as I said when I have my black husband with me process is no simple I get it out of there 5 to 10 minutes when I'm buying myself as a white woman I am anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour!!! And it was offend some people but there's the premise discrimination on both sides and this is definitely a discrimination...

Generally, you can go here and get good seafood for a good price. Seriously, I know it's fast food, but the baked tilapia is pretty good. It's smaller and maybe a little drier sometimes than a sit-down restaurant, but the price is much lower. I've also, in the past, had the salmon (also fine), breaded fish, and breaded chicken. The breaded stuff is quite a bit greasier, but yummy. My favorite side is the southern style green beans (not meatless). They also have pickle chips which are darn good.

The one problem is that every once in a while they are training new cashiers and the order process jams. This was a severe problem, in my opinion, for the first half of 2011. I noticed that in late 2011 it was fixed.

Sometimes it takes a little longer to get your food when you choose healthy stuff. I'd venture a guess that fried chicken and/or fish averages 3-5 minutes but baked is more like 8-10 minutes. All of my experiences have been dine-in. The owners, Terry and Helen, are very sweet people and good at...
