【Food Exploration】Mediterranean Restaurants Near Duke – Part 2
Trey BobbittTrey Bobbitt
I’ve been twice, and the food is not bad, but it’s certainly not anything to be excited about. It’s also extremely Americanized and overpriced. I watched them make my order the second time, the meat was pale white, precooked chicken that they threw on a grill and drowned it in a cheap oil and some red sauce, and that was reflected in the quality when I ate it. They also defaulted both times to a generic flour tortilla which is odd to me because the default should be a Mediterranean bread of some kind, but I supposed that’s my fault for not saying? When I asked the front person for dolmades with my order, she seemed very confused as to what I was talking about until I rephrased it as “stuffed grape leaf”, but this person also made my order; how can someone prepare Mediterranean food properly if they don’t even know what it’s called? I was also charged 6 dollars to make a combo with only 3 dolmades; that’s ridiculous. I didn’t see a single rotisserie in the back, so I’m going to assume most meats are prepared the way I specified earlier which is disappointing. Overall, I would not recommend this place due to poor quality, untraditional/poor preparation of food, and pricing.

another update on Aug 25, Again, two staff preparing the food didn’t wear mask at all. updates on Aug 2020, Have to reduce it to 3 stars. The staff seems to be not wearing their masks properly, some of them do wear, while the others either don’t wear or don’t cover both mouth and nose. It’s especially concerning some are the ones preparing your food. Hope they improved since my last visit a couple weeks ago. Also they require you to sign the receipt, but with only one pen bucket (many of the business which requires signatures have two separate buckets for clean and dirty pens) Oh, this one time, they forgot to put any hummus into my plate, just plain pita bread :( Eating my plain pita bread now ;( Original review: not sure if it is authentic Mediterranean food, but most of the dishes taste great to me. Very generous portion size given how much they cost. Add on sides can become expensive though. Lunch specials are usually great!

We have never been to this restaurant in person, but we regularly order from them through GrubHub. The orders are always correct, the food is still warm when it arrives, and the restaurant always accommodates special requests or substitutions. The food is always high quality and delicious. Some mediterranean restaurants go really overboard with the herbs and spices, but Mediterra Grill does not. Their use of spices and herbs is just enough to compliment the food.

Update 3/22/19 - Until now, my experience with Mediterra Grill was always through GrubHub delivery. We're no longer using GrubHub due to a string of bad experiences, so tonight I picked up our Mediterra order myself. The restaurant was clean and spacious with a counter-serve set-up. The gentleman who greeted me was courteous, and our order was ready to go but still hot. Overall a pleasant experience. Something to note: the plaza parking lot was difficult to navigate, with significant traffic (both vehicles and pedestrians); but that is no reflection of...
