Read moreIf you're in the mood for a culinary experience that whispers “budget-friendly" and screams "lower your expectations," then look no further than this charming little exercise in gastronomic compromise. Upon entry, you're greeted by a cashier whose disinterest rivals the ambience, who, with an audacity that deserves a standing ovation, requests a tip before you've even contemplated your first plate of tepid tempura. A bold move, considering this is a self-serve AYCE establishment where service is defined loosely as the occasional clearing of plates; though in my case, even that rare privilege was withheld.
And yes, I got tricked into tipping the preselected amount, but received no service. Lesson learned.
The soda machine, ever the beacon of American dining hope, was broken; effectively dashing dreams of a crisp cola pairing with my lukewarm miso. Tragedy in three acts.
The nigiri sushi? Serviceable, if you have a fondness for rice sculptures loosely tethered to whispers of seafood. It’s clear they’re padding the profit margins one grain at a time. Still, they’ve got bills to pay, and evidently not enough tipped service to help cover them. At least the rolls had lots of filler ingredients in there; however, the seafood, again, was a bit on the skimpier side.
Surprisingly, the crab Rangoon was the belle of this budget ball: hot, crispy, and not pretending to be anything it’s not. A small victory in an otherwise forgettable war.
In short, this is the kind of place you visit not for artistry or ambiance, but because you're hungry and have accepted that dignity sometimes takes a back seat to deep-fried efficiency. Come for the value, stay for the regret; but hey, at least...
Read moreI love this place. It is a little simple. Kind of like if Golden Corral and Kanki had a baby that needed to wear a helmet most the time for safety. You walk on the door like the above mentioned Golden Corral and you are great by a register and someone to take you money and hand you a cup, then take your name and have you wait about thirty minutes. Now when I walked inside I see two sets of belts that run through two sets of booths and stools like a bar on the end. But I have never seen them both running at the same time no matter what day or time I have been. It’s like Walmart with all the registers but only one is open. So after you wait then the fun starts. You get to sit at your table. They have a really simple get it your damn self area for drinks and condiments. After that has passed your ready to watch as food come on a automatic catwalk to your table where you open the sliding door and grab as many as you want. If you have a group sometimes you can share. Most plate come with tow or four so very easy to mix and match. You can play the collect plates game to see who can eat the most sushi or you can take them to the trash line yourself and dump them off. This goes on as long as you like. The sushi is great. It stays fresh because people take it before it has time to sit for long. It is fun for anyone who like sushi and not having to wait for food. I just wish they had a staff to wait on the tables and bring you the things you need. Did I mention the sushi is amazing. It is over thirty minutes from my house and I have been about five times. The sushi is great. I took my five year old nephew and he loved it. The sushi was on point. And if your wondering the sushi is...
