DO NOT GO HERE for the gyro platter. I was planning on going to Jersey Mike's and saw the "Southern, Fresh, Greek" and even mention of Carolina's and was excited. I love gyros, one of my favorite work lunch meals. I saw there wasn't a gyro combo or anything, should've been a red flag. I've had really good platters at other Greek places though, so gave it a shot. I was in shock when there was only one cup of tzatziki served with it. I was asked greek or house salad and came with fries. I essentially had to assemble my own gyro with the salad and only one cup of tzatziki. The cashier was very nice and when I asked for 3 more cups, he gave them to me without hesitation. The fries were plain and cheap, I did ask for seasoning and was given a cup of it. The pita was chewy and just all around not good. The meat portion was good but it seems like it was just heaped out with a spoon from a heated tray. Won't be going back. $15 with no drink to assemble my own gyro with bad pita and sorry fries. The tzatziki flavor wasn't the worst I've had but definitely not good. If you are in Durham and want a gyro, "Gussy's Place" is far superior in every aspect. Their greek fries are seasoned string fries with feta topping. Gyro meat carved off the spit. Taza grill in Raleigh too. They carve the meat off spit and flip on flat grill right in front of you. $10 = gyro combo with fries or side salad and a drink. This place is all about PR/advertising and no product. I'm surprised there are so many...
Read moreAt first I was excited when this location open up. Showmars is a Charlotte/ Gastonia area based restaurant which is where I am from. However I was extremely disappointed when they did not offer the salads in a tortilla bowl which is one of the top 3 things Showmars is known for ..you can get any Salad in a tortilla bowl or a warm pita. Traditionally it comes in tortilla bowl unless your ask for it to be in a pita or a plan bowl but I haven't known anyone to not get a salad in tortilla bowl. For years the Grilled Chicken Chef Salad in a tortilla bowel from Showmars is all I have raved about to my friends and co workers. It was one of my friends who told me about this location because it's near where she lived. Imagine my disappointment when the Grilled Chicken Chef Salad I order was delivered in a Styrofoam bowl instead in a crunchy tortilla bowel. I immediately call the location as this had to be a mistake and was then told they would not be offering the salads in a tortilla bowel. I don't understand how you gonna to adopt a restaurant but not all of thier traditional and/or authentic menu items. People are not truly experiencing what this restaurant has to offer. So I guess I will have to wait until I go to Charlotte back to get the Grilled Chicken Chef Salad in a tortilla bowel, the way God and George Couchell (Showmars Founder) intended it to be. BTW the one on Freedom Drive is...
Read moreUnfortunately, today is my last day eating at Showmars, which is in my area and I've dined at consistently for 5 years. The young gentleman was sweeping the front door entrance rug , he proceeds to sweep the dirt towards me as I sat on the bench waiting on my pick up order (1st incident) then he sweeps towards the other way and a dust ball gets stuck on the broom bristles several times and takes it off by hand and throws it on the floor then goes to the employees food prep station and touches all over the counter with his unwashed hands where the food gets bagged (2nd incident) so I approach him and stated please wash your hands after touching that dirty broom bottom and dust balls and I don't want you getting my food he stated that he wasn't going to get my food all while still around the food prep area and touching the counters . I get my food and I left, however I watched from my car for a few minutes and seen the same young man hand a lady and then a gentleman their bag order. YES STILL without washing his hands (3rd incident of the night) .I was in shock !!! PLEASE PLEASE Management stress to your staff the importance of hygiene and what are the appropriate steps to take...
