I visited the Waffle House location at 3500 Hillsborough Rd in Durham around 10 pm on August 21, 2024 with a good friend of mine, and we had a very poor experience. When we arrived and were seated at a table, our waitress Megan completely neglected to come serve us. We waited patiently, but she seemed to have forgotten about us entirely.
Wanting to at least listen to some music while we waited, we asked another server, Josh, if he could provide us with some change to put on the jukebox. However, he was extremely rude and flat out told us that we had to order something first, even though we were already seated and waiting to be served. This was very frustrating, as we just wanted to enjoy a nice late-night meal.
To our surprise, we discovered that the jukebox already had some credits so we put on some music without needing any change.
Luckily, another server named Tristan noticed that we were being ignored and stepped in to help us. He was completely awesome, taking our order and getting us served promptly. A large group of students came in and sat next to us and he bussed their table and was basically covering for the whole crew.
When our food did finally arrive, I had ordered a double order of hash browns (diced, capped, peppered and smothered) as my 100% vegan option, while my friend had the bacon, egg, and cheese (insofar as I recall). My friend had a coffee and I had a Sprite. The food was half-decently prepared (the hash browns were rather dry and overdone), but the poor service really put a damper on the overall experience.
While this location is very nice, out of the 6 or (arguably) 7 Waffle House locations in Durham, I'm disappointed that we chose this one, as the staff's negligence almost made us regret our decision to eat there. If it wasn't for the kind intervention of Tristan, we likely would not have enjoyed our meal the way we had hoped. I somewhat hesitate to recommend this particular Waffle House location based on the terrible service...

The three provided superior customer service and not just to me, but to everyone else that dined in at the Waffle House at the very same time that I was dining in. Brandon was my cook, he was an excellent cook, my steak was perfect and although I asked for my meal to go, he accommodated my last minute request when I informed him that I would be eating in. A very rude staff member of Waffle House, Ashley, made it very uncomfortable for myself and other individuals dining in the Waffle House this morning as she had a very nasty attitude and was making rude outbursts towards her co workers for whatever reason. Ashley created a very uncomfortable work environment for her co workers and the others dining in could see this as well, we all stared at each other in shock. Ashley was very sarcastic towards the other staff members and seemed to be very irritable. Although Ashley disturbed customers as they were eating, Jessie, Brandon and Lauren kept everything very professional and did not comment on Ashley’s behavior when customers started to complain aloud. Please keep these staff members on your team, but please address Ashley as she seems to be the staff member who would drive customers away with her attitude. After finishing my meal, I walked outside to find any Waffle House staff member in site so that I could gather everyone’s name . Please take this review into consideration and do what is necessary...
