Stopped here on the day of the Field of Dreams concert with my mom. We walked in through the side entrance and were greeted by a middle-aged blonde woman. There was also a younger guy with brown hair working behind the bar, but he never acknowledged us the entire 20 minutes we were there.
It took a couple of minutes for the woman to bring over menus, which was fine—we understood she was busy with her other tables. She asked what we wanted to drink, but since we weren’t sure yet, we told her we’d need a second to look at a drink menu or at least find out if they had Pepsi or Coke products. Instead of waiting, she dropped the menus and walked away before we even had a chance to order drinks.
She then called over from across the room that she’d be back after checking on another table (which seemed to be people she knew), but she never returned. A man coming from the kitchen noticed us sitting with menus and waiting, and he asked the server to come over. She said she would, but again, she never did. After waiting a few more minutes, my mom and I decided to leave.
We ended up going to 7Hills instead—and I can’t recommend that place enough. Fantastic staff and service, absolutely amazing food, and such a great atmosphere. 10000%...
Read moreWhen I visit other area of the country I tend to want to eat non-corporate/chain restaurants. Went to this little locally owned bar/grill while we were visiting Dyersville to have a quick lunch. It was around 1:30PM. The lady running the bar, appeared to be a little let down that we stopped in, like we were an inconvenience to her. I asked her if I could have an Arnold Palmer (Lemonade/Ice Tea) and in a snooty voice - well we can't make that, a little put off by the response, I responded with its ice tea and lemonade. I found out after this response that they use bottled tea and not freshly made tea, so she would have to open a bottle of lemonade and bottle of tea. Also, we we were told that we could only order fried foods, because the owner has cleaned the flat top grill and she doesn't want to have to clean it again before dinner rush. The whole environment just didn't feel friendly and welcoming. What I found interesting was that the lady running the bar was much friendlier to the locals and regulars than...
Read moreMy mother and I decided to try the Palace Saloon while on our way to the doll museum. We arrived around 12:40 for lunch. The lady working there was pretty attentive. Though it was a Tuesday I didn't realize the amount of take out orders I saw going out; I think it may have taken 30 to 40 minutes to get our food. I can see why they are so busy because our food was great and I will be taking my husband and sons there. I had the Philly Cheesesteak, she had a half pound burger which she immediately cut in half and we both had onion rings which were crisped just right. In talking to our waitress we learned that the gorgeous woodwork behind the bar has been there since 1832! Glad we went and look forward...
