I placed an order in the store on Thursday for pick up on Saturday morning. I was hosting a taste testing event Saturday morning that I needed to plan for, hence preordering. On Saturday I arrive at the store to grab my order and the owner hands me the boxes and I leave. As we are setting up at home, we find out three Apple Fritters are missing. I call the shop and the owner says I can come in and grab three different donuts because they are all out of Apple Fritters. I arrive at the store and most of the donuts are gone so I just ask for a refund. While the owner is finding my ticket, I calmly and quietly ask him what happened to my Apple Fritters? He says he made 150 that morning and they ran out. I ask him why the 3 I ordered on Thursday were not put in my box. He says it is "just a mistake" and mistakes happen. I tell him that I have an event (that I am missing right now) where we planned for certain donuts and it is frustrating that now we are missing some that I preordered on Thursday. He just continues to say it was a mistake. I then ask him why he did not tell me that my three Apple Fritters were not in the order when I came to pick them up because he was the one who gave me my boxes. He has no answer but "just a mistake" and we will give you a refund. When I came to pick up the original order, he did not tell that I was three donuts short and let me walk out of the shop thinking I had all my donuts. If I did not call to ask and take my time away from my guests to drive back to the shop, he would have charged me for donuts I did not purchase. I was trying to remain calm and quiet because it is a small shop and there was a customer behind me but I wanted to clearly explain why I was frustrated. The owner just kept interrupting me, saying it was a mistake and that he knows business and owns a lot of business and this stuff happens. Never did he apologize. This exchange was about 3-5 minutes long so I was not there taking up all his time but he cut me off for the last time and said we will get you a refund. As I walked away, I heard and saw him laugh about me to the next person in line. That is so disrespectful. He made the error, did not own up to it, was very disrespectful with how he talked to me and then makes it seem like I am the difficult customer. I want to be clear, I am not complaining about the mistake, everyone makes mistakes, I am upset about that he knew my donuts were missing and let me walk away without my full order. Then the way he handled it when I came back and how he talked to me was not okay and inappropriate. Ron, the owner, got to know my name after only one trip to DC donuts, and now I look forward to conversing with him every Saturday when we visit. It was nice having some donuts that were not overly sweet, between their breading and icing, it's a great balance that leaves you wanting to eat more without needing a palate cleanser. We weren't expecting that, but it sets them apart from others which is a good thing.
We also got to meet the owner of the business and he is very personable, and clearly takes pride in his work. We shared a handful of stories and relations.
