Hey there! Do you want an informative -and completely unbiased ;) - review of Eagle Cafe and Bakery? If so, you can stop combing through the sea of “great service” and “good coffee” and search no longer. I’m a long-time customer and (in case there was any confusion) an unabashed advocate of Eagle Cafe and Bakery so although I already wrote a review of this place when it was an Alchemist, I thought I’d write another one now that it’s locally owned. So let me tell you how this place has only changed for the better since I wrote a glowing review last year. The bakery aspect of Eagle Cafe and Bakery has become even more extensive and inclusive since they split off from the Alchemist chain. And while we’re on the topic of food, Hadley’s (the owner) lemon bars are the best thing that’s happened to humanity since Prometheus’s fire. They also have a vast array of vegan options that taste great, unlike the soggy styrofoam so often hawked at places such as these. So far my favorite baked good has been either the carrot cake cupcakes or (wouldn’t you know) the lemon bars. But we all know it takes more than a good lemon bar (no matter how warm or buttery) to make a cafe a spot of permanent residency. The people there are absolute delights. They are kind and genuine and I don’t believe I’ve seen a fake smile or an eye roll in all my days purchasing coffee (no matter how irritating I must be taking a long time to order and paying with one-dollar bills). I’ve grown to know and love many of the staff and you get the sense talking to them that they enjoy their jobs (quite a rarity, I know). The good-natured atmosphere also rubs off on any who enter, making the whole experience -whether you stay for a few minutes or a few hours- relaxed and pleasant. Not only is the atmosphere friendly, but it’s also aesthetically and artistically pleasing. Eagle Cafe and Bakery took the aesthetic blueprint from when they were Alchemist and improved it sevenfold. For those who have never been to an Alchemist, it has a dark academia/modern style with a whimsical flare. Every decoration, from the light fixtures to the dark-leafed plants to the mottled countertop and every wooden table, high-backed chair, and antique bottle in between, blends into a cosy yet elegant space for study, conversations, and anything else one would think to do in a coffee shop. The music choice has changed somewhat since Eagle Cafe and Bakery split, but I still enjoy it thoroughly. I’m no music expert in American 1920s and 30s, but I’ve heard the unmistakable voice of Woody Guthrie many times, and that’s all it takes to keep me satisfied. I come to Eagle Cafe and Bakery to write my book almost every week and some of my best work has sprung from this coffee shop. I encourage all writers, students, readers, etc, to do any work that needs intense focus here. All of the ceiling tiles are perfectly spaced and won’t distract you.
PS: Yes, I wrote this review while...
Read moreI have been in this shopping area so many times and never realized that this coffee joint was here. 3 minutes from my place and never knew. Well, I needed a caffeinated beverage this morning so Eagle Coffee sounded like a good joint up hit up.
Walking up to the shop, there were patrons sitting outside enjoying their morning goodies in the fresh air. Inside was even busier. I didn't notice how busy it truly was cause I was distracted by all the baked goods on display! How does one only pick one treat? The muffins, croissants and danishes all look hella good. I also checked out the cooler which had a nice variety of quiches and sammys.
I was greeted by a beautiful smile behind the counter. She was sweet and gave me a minute to breeze over the drink menu. I knew what I wanted but I had to check out the menu just in case. I ordered myself a med iced americano with the keto quiche and a croissant for my Grandma to take with me.
My iced americano came out first. The condiment bar was nicely stocked with your coffee essentials. I got myself a little half and half with a packet of green sweetner for my drink. My coffee was perfectly made! It wasn't watered down from too much ice or water. With my additions to the coffee, it was just what I needed to start my day. I got myself a seat at the big community table, sipped on my coffee and waited for the rest of my order.
My quiche was a thick and hearty! I love the crusty cheese on top! It was perfectly heated throughout the quiche, no cold spot. I love the salsa that came with it, it had a nice heat to it. The quiche was crustless and had lots of protein in it. As much as I wanted to like the quiche, I think it was the herbs on top that I didn't really care for, the smell of the herbs. I'm not a big herbs person. I also appreciate the amount of protein in the quiche but it was a little too much for me personally. It was tasty, the parts that I ate! If you're looking for a protein packed quiche, get the keto quiche. I might just have to pick a less protein packed quiche the next time around.
My grandma enjoyed half of her croissant and saved the other half for later. She made sure not one speck of the powdered sugar was left behind, she loves her sweets. The croissant made her verry happy! I enjoyed my coffee and my time at the shop. I'm happy I found this joint. I look forward to coming back and trying the other baked goodies they have for sale with my...
Read moreAmong my favorite businesses I have ever reviewed and I review a lot.
A well run. clean, efficient, quality, local coffee shop. The baked goods I have tried have all been top notch. The quiche is among the best I have had anywhere, like generally, like ever. The place smells great as a result of all the fresh baked goods and coffee. The coffee is quality and (importantly) consistent. Prices are in line with most competitors on beverages. Food prices are quite fair, and it's a good spot to get something that is actually made in-house without breaking the bank. They offer keto options in addition to many many traditional baked goods and cafe fare. Perhaps the highlight here is the staff and owner/manager, superior service is actually what makes the place a stand out. This place has the best coffee shop staff in the Treasure Valley hands down. Polite, friendly, funny, and welcoming this place has ZERO pretentiousness. This is a small operation concerned with making it right as opposed to . Oh, and the design aesthetic is cool. Give it a try. They deserve the support. They made me a regular, they'll make you one too.
Update: This place keeps improving with every passing month, so many new features and offerings, so if you haven't been by in awhile it is worth...
