Mickey's Oceanic Grill — Restaurant in East Hartford

I’m very disappointed in this place. I was referred to the seafood place in the spring of 2023. My sister’s boyfriend went there and bought food for my mom and talked about how good it was in the sandwiches were meaty and tasty. So I decided the next time I went and bought my mom lunch I would go there. Not only did I buy fish and chips for her. I bought three fish sandwiches for my boys. Of course it was a pretty penny I spent, and when I got home and open the bag I was so disappointed. I’m not gonna get into the details about how bad things were at that point, but I did call and spoke to the owner/manager because there was a question about the charge on my credit card. What I didn’t realize is that I had tipped almost $25 on top of the cost of the food. I informed him of my experience, and he offered to refund the tip. I told him no, I don’t do that. I am not gonna take away a tip that I gave. He offered to mail me out a $25 gift card for me to try them again. He did just that, now here on December 29th. I decided why not give them another try? I ordered the fish and chips for my mom which pretty much used the entire gift card but since a few dollars were left I decided to order a side of onion rings. And then what was left on the card I just told him to keep. I noticed older gentleman in the back, so the back was definitely moving better than the first time I was there, but the part that disgusted me was the lady at the register seem to have a cough/cold. So she was coughing without covering her mouth, and then rubbing her nose with her sleeve/back of her hand. And then was touching the bags and stuff for the food. Needless to say, I wanted to say forget it at that point, but what I did is, took the wrapping off the food and tossed it in the trash there. Did not take the coleslaw because I don’t know who was making it and if they’re acting that carelessly in front of me, I don’t know what happens when people don’t see them preparing food. Now she was very nice and pleasant to me but hygiene and handling food is something that should be taking seriously at all times. When I make it to my mom, to give her the fish and chips I see the fish is burned, not sure if their oil was old or have been scorched. I could not give this to my mom. I was so disappointed so not only did my second experience was bad. I wasted gas going back-and-forth to East Hartford.. I have been a longgg time customer of Mickey's. I have gotten to know the staff over the years and every time I order food the staff are always friendly and the food is always great. Today I placed an order online and sent my daughter in to pick up the food because I was not feeling well. My daughter came back to my car upset because of a straw. I asked my daughter what happened and she told me she asked the cashier lady for a straw, that was in a cup right in front of her face, and she did not answer therefore she proceeded to take one. The lady told my daughter to ask if she wants a straw next time and asked her if she had ordered a drink. I felt this was inappropriate because we placed an order with them, my bill was over $20. Normally I purchase drinks there, even if it is just a lemon water. Today I did not because both my daughter and I already had beverages we had paid for elsewhere in the car. While my daughter was getting tarter sauce, according to my daughter, the lady had said something about people thinking the place is a convenient store, in reference to people just taking things. My daughter is 14 years old. My daughter told me about this and was upset so I went inside to find out what happened and why. I confronted a friend and worker there about it and the other lady that had said something to my daughter about the straw interjected and said she said nicely for my daughter to ask next time and basically had the last word and I left before I got out of control. Instead I will leave a review because I have never had any problem with any of the cashiers in that place until now. Why be in a business of customer service if you cannot serve people without an attitude, running your mouth and feeling the need to be defensive about things that actually came out of your mouth. I get people may excessively take things but that has nothing to do with me or my daughter. If I had taken a straw I do not think the story would have been the same and just because some one sees a young teenager doesn't give them a right to treat them like they are a little child and say...

I was in CT on a business trip and my co-worker who had been in this area before, recommended we go to Mickey's for lunch. He said that their fish sandwiches and hotdogs were worth trying.

I had the Grilled Salmon sandwich and it was surprisingly good. The food came out pretty fast, despite having a pretty large amount of people for the lunch rush. The bread was really good and the salmon was cooked nicely. It was a simple sandwich with just some tartar sauce and lettuce but it had good flavor. The seasoned fries were good too but you had to order everything separate, there were no lunch combinations.

We went back for lunch again on day 2, this time I tried the Shrimp Po Boy which was actually better than the Salmon in my opinion. Again, very simple sandwich with tasty bread, a house made tartar sauce and some lettuce. Simple but delicious.

The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the environment was a little dated and some of the counter-tops were still dirty from previous customers. It's sort of like an old diner, maybe from the 70's or 80's and im sure it hasn't been updated since then. Everything looks old, which I don't mind, but it can be a little off-putting. Also, the unclean table-tops were unexcusable. One of the staff should be coming and cleaning the dining area, which I never saw anyone do after going there twice.

The prices were decent, nothing was too expensive, but there should be some kind of lunch combos for a discount, had to pay for the entree, plus fries and a drink all separately which I thought was a little odd.
