Hilton, your leadership failed me — and this is exactly why we need to raise the bar. Just a few days ago, I stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Hartford/East Hartford. There was no running water — no working toilets, no handwashing, and a strong sewage odor throughout the building. Yet the hotel remained open and continued serving breakfast to guests. I became physically sick after my stay. Even worse, Charlotte Burke-Thompson, the manager who later told me I “didn’t know how to read,” was the same person who checked me in — and said nothing about the water outage. Not a word. Not even a gesture toward the tiny, unclear signage. When I returned to raise the issue, she became visibly hostile, waving her finger in my face about the signs. Only then did Mercy Breitenbach finally come out from the back and hand me her business card — with no apology, no responsibility, and no attempt to make things right. I’ve filed formal complaints with: The Connecticut Attorney General The Department of Public Health The Department of Consumer Protection And I’ve escalated this to Hilton’s executive team, including a request for review by CEO Chris Nassetta’s office As a Hilton Honors member of 10+ years, I’m disappointed, not just by the lack of service, but the lack of humanity. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen consumers mistreated — it’s why, through my company CodeForce, I’ve already begun building a movement to call out bad service, highlight businesses doing it right, and give people tools to advocate for themselves. This is not just a complaint — it’s part of a larger mission. Because this isn’t just about Hilton.
