Asadero Chikali — Restaurant in East Los Angeles

I’m from Mexicali and I know that those tacos are so hard to replicate and find here in LA, and missing the taste of guisados or even tacos from Asadero Acatlán will make you drive all 4 hours to get them. However, no more! Although the hand made tortillas are not as good and often chewy compared to those in Mexicali, this place gets it pretty darn close. The guisados de carne con papa were a bit too salty, with the chicharrones ones are missing those bits of crunchiness you should find, but las de machaca (carne desebrada) were probably the best from the morning batch.

We were there around 12:45 so we can have both the guisados and asadas, but by 1p we still had to wait 30 minutes for the asadas, so that’s a bummer. Having had them around 6p/7p I can now say the asadas seem to be better later in the day, rather than too dried of beef asada when the first batch comes out :(

This place is great and something I've been wanting to try for awhile and glad I didn't finally.

I had their barbacoa tacos guisados which was very tender and with cheese added. Their salsa bar added a lot to flavor to it and the barbacoa was very tender. Their chikali taco comes with beans and guacamole and I got it with carne asada. The asada was charred very well and seasoned very well also. The beans went well with it and were not soggy. The staff was very nice and helpful in describing what was available, popular, recommended and what they thought it should have.

There's some seating next to their shop which is convenient. Their agua frescas was very good also according to my friend. It was his favorite place so far when I took him the multiple taco joints in east LA.

To be honest I'm picky when it comes to lunch trucks. Therefore, I walked by and notice they have an (A)and like everyone else before ordering, I checked out their Instagram page. I even asked recommendations from other people ordering. I was really hoping food was as delicious as in the pictures. I was not disappointed they are delicious 😋 I order three chikali tacos pastor, asada with flour and corn tortillas to be exact. The meat was actually "asada" grill and not hard the reheated type!! What can I say I'm a picky mexican. The chikali tacos comes with pinto beans but they put a perfect amount not over powering the meat lol if you know what I mean (no offense king taco) and the guacamole was fresh it was green green! not brown.
