Birrieria Chalio — Restaurant in East Los Angeles

Nostalgic everything! Went here as a kid many moons ago, lol, several times. Hasn't changed a bit in anyway besides the personnel but I'd say only for the better not including 🙏 Chalio 🙏 himself, but his awesome son's personality hospitality and service (aside from him looking like his old man's twin) does him all the justice in the world, that's for sure! Walking in here is like taking the Greyhound to Mexico instantaneously soon as you so much as pull into their parking lot in the back. Food's like no other, service like no other (you feel like family fr fr), and it just feels like you're in your own home in terms of comfort. Of course, the prices have inched up a bit, but it's so worth it. I ordered a birria plate (🔥🔥 🔥🚒) and menudo (🔥🔥🔥🚒) at the counter and purposely didn't tip there to see if I'd get any kind of attitude, but he remained just as nice! Fyi, corn tortillas are h.u.g.e.e.e like no other place and handmade 🤤🤤! So I tipped our awesome server/waitress at the end of our dine in meal who genuinely seemed like she loves working there. I remember coming here as a kid and mariachi walking thru the doors infront to play for tips; didn't see that this time around although I was kind of wanting to. Maybe on our next visit,...

This place is so Amazing! This is Mexican food like NO other, tastes so good everytime I come. We are always looking for Original Mexican Food, no copy cats or fast food or mexican food that really is american, and this right here at Chalio's is to die for! We had the Birria covered in delicious flavorings with lemon, cilantro and diced onion. As well as the (huge) cheese Quesadilla's made with incredible tortillas.

For those rating low due to the line that forms outside, its called having Fame! This place is that good that lines form, any place that has a line should tell you that people are willing to wait due to the Food and the Ambient of the restaurant.

Our waitress was a very kind woman that would constatntly make sure we were taken care of, very sweet personality and constantly kept smiling at a distance to let us know she was there if needed.

The service is bad. There are no excuses. The food is over rated, with that said I was walking by and went in for a second chance...I try to give a place a second chance when possible. Service was still bad, the food is over priced but at least the second time I the food tasted better. I order birria this time and it was okay. So bottom line....I guess you just have to take your chances. Good luck. Dear owner, I am willing to give your place another shot. Everyone can have an off day.
