The service here was great! The person handling the counter was friendly and easy to talk to. I've been looking for a good mashed potato pizza for a while so I ordered the large (18") Loaded Van Gogh (mashed potato, bacon, broccoli, scallions, cheddar, and Alfredo). It tasted great and was right out of the oven when I picked it up.
Few cons though for this order. It unfortunately wasn't a true mashed potato pizza. There was a crumbled baked potato on top which doesn't give the same texture. So loaded baked potato pizza, yes. Mashed potato, no. Secondly, the toppings were mostly in the center of the pizza leaving a band of just cheese near the crust (could have used just a bit more potato too, or at least some smaller chunks and better dispersement). Lastly, it's on the higher end for pizza at $28 for a large (although not alone at that price point in East Lyme). There are A LOT of pizza options within 10-20 minutes of here that are a little cheaper. So if stocking up for a party, this would be a difficult choice.
Overall, I enjoyed the pizza when I brought it home and enjoyed it for multiple days later with the leftovers. It wasn't a true mashed potato pizza, but it still had a good flavor where the toppings were. The price point might not be as big of a concern if there were more toppings or at least had them better dispersed over the full area, but I found myself rearranging the pieces a bit when heating it up. Read moreThought it would be a good idea to order 6 sandwiches for a sunday birthday party and it was a huge flop! 5/6 people were unhappy with their meal to the point of not being able to finish it. Normally I go to the Plum Tomato in Colchester, which has NEVER disappointed. We have even placed extremely large orders with them. The East lyme location however is not even comparable. The sandwiches were so small there was nothing to them. All bread. It’s like they made all the dishes with the least amount of food as physically possible. This place is known for having awesome large sandwiches, they even offer each one in 1/4, 1/2 and full. When I first tried the Colchester location my first impression was how massive the sandwiches were and how tasty. I wish I could say the same about East Lyme. There was barely any chicken at all on the 2 chicken parm grinders it was comical. The pesto pasta had no pesto and was bland. The salad on the side was also dissatisfying as it came with lettuce, thick cut raw onions, 3 micro shavings of carrots and 2 tiny pieces of tomato. The roast beef was also the same story, mostly bread and tasteless. For over $100, I am floored by this kind of service. I will be keeping this review up until I get a refund. Save your money and hit up Mcdonald’s you’ll be happier and so...
Read moreAs regulars on our once a month outings to The Plum Tomato in Colchester ( which we have been doing for years) we opted to try the East Lyme location. To our surprise it was not like the other location that had a a large dining room and a waitstaff. This was a tinier place with booths but you as the patron had to order at the register , pay for your meal, get your own drink ( bottled, not fountain) , snacks, etc . & then find a seat.
The place is clean and neat, so no complaints, but the atmosphere is boring. Like wallpaper starting to peel boring.
We ordered our usual "Sammy the Bull" on brickinni bread and I'll tell you I was terribly disappointed. The bread was nothing like the Colchester location. It had a bland taste and reminded us of something reheated from the fridge but what was disturbing was how tiny the sandwich was. Normally , two hands can barely hold a quarter sandwich. This you could hold in one hand easily because there was pretty much nothing to it. It was the bare minimum of what you should have. It was a tease and not a please.
As much as we love the The Plum Tomato, we learned today that each location is slightly different. We've experienced them all and have found that the Colchester location...
