My husband and I recently visited Hearth, curious to form our own opinion despite the mixed reviews. While we wanted to love it, we were sorely disappointed, as the exceptional service, inviting atmosphere, and perfect drinks couldn't make up for the lackluster food.
We started our evening with drinks, and they were, without a doubt, a highlight. As my go-to cocktail, my Manhattan was absolutely perfect, and my husband was very pleased with his beer selection. We also shared the roasted carrots as an appetizer, a dish that was truly delicious and proved to be the best part of our meal. Throughout the evening, the service was impeccable—our server was attentive, kind, and handled our feedback with grace.
Unfortunately, our main courses were a different story. I ordered the gnocchi with roasted mushrooms, a dish that was, for lack of a better word, inedible. The gnocchi's texture was a uniform mush, and the accompanying sauce was completely flavorless. I am not one to send a dish back lightly, but I had no choice.
I ordered the Margherita pizza as a replacement. The pizza was just okay, nothing to write home about.
My husband's entrée, the Euro Chicken Breast, fared only slightly better. While the chicken itself was cooked perfectly and had a nice sauce, the "1000 layer" potatoes were hard, dry, and lacked any discernible flavor.
In the end, the best dish we had all night was the roasted carrots appetizer. While the non-culinary aspects of our visit were spectacular, Hearth's kitchen simply did not live up to the standard set by the rest of...
Read moreMan what a disappointment. Expensive food that is just plain bad. The service was absolutely great, and the atmosphere was very nice as well, but holy cow the food was terrible.
The carrot appetizer was pretty good but not for $16.
However the gnocchi was a complete, sticky mush, in a tasteless sauce, topped with breadcrumbs that tasted like cardboard.
The gnocchi was sent back and replaced with a Margherita pizza that was equally as bad. The sauce tasted sugary, like something you’d get from a jar of Ragu, the cheese was bland, and the bottom was covered in a flour that coated your entire mouth. My wife managed to eat two slices, only because she was starving, and we and just left the rest, didn’t even bother to take it home.
Their European chicken was pretty good, but for $32 it was the size of an apple, came with five half cut carrots and a few caramelized onions, and two VERY tiny “thousand layer potatoes” which tasted like nothing.
Overall I’m extremely disappointed with this place. The photos and menu options had my wife and I excited to try it, and we were looking forward to it for two weeks. What an absolute let down.
Legitimately the only good thing here was the atmosphere...
Read moreUnder new mangement? Last time we were here was 2 years ago (from out of state). Server was pleasant, but extremely uninformed. She didn't know the specials. Couldn't answer questions about the dishes. Didn't know the accompaniment of the desert special and didn't really seem well informed or prepared for service. $300+ for dinner of 4, and I still tipped way too generously because service is a difficult job. I blame management for not preparing this ~20 year old fresh server.
Octopus was good (got 2nds). But the "romanesco" cauliflower was actually plain old white cauliflower (fix the menu!) The lamb loin was bland, dry, and lacking the rich flavor of lamb. The risotto was a new version I've never seen, lacking the traditional creaminess, and majorly under seasoned.
Tasted the Nebbiolo, and never experienced such a "watery" Italian powerhouse. Tempernillo was way too acrid and dry, with no depth. Settled on some mediocre recommendation just to have some wine.
Overall, very disappiinted. Don't know how people are giving 5-stars.
Lunch earlier the same day at 1906 in Longwood was ~$80 less and 100% better...
