If you want a big serving of rice with a two teaspoon side dish of curried goat (half of which are bones) and cabbage, then this is the place for you! I went here about a week ago. Ordered a curried goat dinner with rice&beans. It's carry out, so it came in one of those styrofoam serving dishes with a big depression for your main dish, and two smaller depressions for your side dishes. Well, apparently I ordered a Rice&Beans dinner because the larger depression was heaped FULL of rice with a few beans in it (and it was dry). Really, there weren't many beans at all. Then there was a little side order of curried goat (with bones) and another teaspoon-sized side of cabbage. The price for this delicious meal? $10!!!
And why do all of the caribbean places look so run-down that you want to think twice about eating anything from them. Even fast food restaurants should look nice and clean! I'm not saying the place was unsanitary, it just looked...dingy. And nearly all of them have this dingy, run-down look. Really, I've only been to 3 caribbean restaurants that you can sit down and eat dinner in comfortably. Two were in NYC, and one was in South Orange. Unfortunately, the one in S. Orange had a really bad, out of the way location so it's closed now. But the food and service was good. And I've never seen a "fast food" one that was nice and bright and clean and appealing like the typical fast-food restaurant you find in the U.S. Really, if you saw a McD's or Burger King or Chinese Restaurant looking like these places, you wouldn't go in there unless you...
Read moreI initially wrote a good review but had to change it. The first time I ate here I got the stew chicken which was delicious. I decided to cut back on meat for health reason. I came back a second time for the brown stew fish which I saw on the menu board. The woman said she doesnt make it all the time and did not make it that day. This was weird to me because I believe it should not be on the menu then. She was extremely nonchalant about it too. I came back a second time and the man said you have to call in the morning to have it made. A complete and total inconvenience, still I am wondering why its written on the menu? This is frustrating because I notice living in the hood, healthier food choices are so difficult to get. I notice a genuine unwillingness from restaurants like these to provide healthier food.I assume whole sale Fish is expensive and chicken is cheap. Ultimately, these businesses benefit and profit off of us remaining unhealthy and COULD CARELESS about giving us a choice to do better. As a black person going into a black owned restaurant I have a higher expectation from my people. People in this community spend their hard earned money to keep your business going so you can support your family. The least you can do make healthier food available to us. It being written on the menu but not actually existing was especially frustrating and dishonest. I went a few blocks down to a mexican owned restaurant that had fish readily available. So sad. My people have...
Read moreHands down, the best Jamaican food in northern NJ serving flavorful classics like stew chicken, oxtails, curried goat and much more. As the weather gets colder, they make a delicious red bean and dumpling soup that you must call early when they open to reserve your portion before they sell out. Rice and beans are on point! A few sparse tables and chairs create a little dining area, but nobody cares about that because the food is why cars are double parked outside on Central Avenue risking tickets from the cops. Assorted drinks can be found in a couple of cooler cases. Hot sauce on the counter. You know, the basics. Enjoy; you'll...
