I had the pleasure of visiting Chef O’s Cook Shop in East Orange, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted warmly by Chef O himself, whose friendly and welcoming personality immediately made me feel at home.

The variety of freshly prepared dishes on display was impressive and visually appealing. I ordered the Escovitch red snapper, jerk chicken, and fried chicken, and each dish was absolutely delicious. The flavors were authentic, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection — you can truly taste the love and passion that goes into the food here.

The portions were generous, the presentation was inviting, and the overall atmosphere made dining here a memorable experience. Chef O’s Cook Shop is not just a place to grab a meal — it’s a taste of authentic Caribbean hospitality and cuisine at its finest.

I'm never impressed by Caribbean restaurants because home cooked is always better. However, the cooks know what they are doing here. My GF never likes oxtail when we buy it at restaurants but she has bought it 3 times from here. The oxtails are flavorful but I think they could be a little more tender. The rice and peas are good but I swear there is a hint of ginger in it (could be me). It's not bad just a little different. The jerk chicken is seasoned nicely with a little kick. The fried chicken is also good but I am not a fried chicken eater so wouldn't reorder it ( just wanted to try it). Now the chicken soup reminds me of going to your Granny's house and she asks you if you want soup. It's delicious and filling. I'm just missing sweet plantains and my meal would be complete. Idk where to begin, but I am not the type of person to leave reviews or nor the type to eat from any Jamaican restaurant, only I’ll order beef patties from Jamaican restaurant. But something just told me to just try this one out. I been looking at reviews. Today I tried White Rice with fried chicken with curry goat gravy. When I tell you chicken was well seasoned, not salty at all, but exactly the right taste!!! I got lil piece of curry goat meat, when I bite into the goat. Omg it was really good and spicy.
