I recently visited Perkins for a casual dinner, and while there were some standout moments, the overall experience had its mix of highs and lows.
First, let's talk about the chocolate pie, which was absolutely delicious. The rich, velvety chocolate filling was smooth and decadent, and the crust was perfectly flaky. It wasnât overly sweet, which made each bite a satisfying treat. If youâre a fan of chocolate desserts, this pie is definitely worth orderingâone of the best Iâve had in a diner setting.
The Eggs Benedict, though typically a breakfast dish, also impressed me. The hollandaise sauce was creamy and flavorful, and the poached eggs were done just right, with the yolks perfectly runny. The toasted English muffin provided a nice crunch, and the side of crispy hashbrowns rounded out the dish. Itâs clear that Perkins puts a lot of effort into this classic.
On the downside, the coffee wasnât up to par. It was average at best, lacking the depth and warmth that I was hoping for to accompany such a hearty meal. It felt like a standard diner brew, not the kind of rich coffee that makes you want to savor each sip.
Our server, Evie, was friendly but a bit inattentive. She greeted us warmly, but there were a few moments where we had to remind her about refills or follow-ups. While she wasnât rude, her level of attentiveness couldâve been betterâjust a bit more focus wouldâve elevated the experience.
All in all, Perkins is a great place for a comforting dinner, especially if you're craving chocolate pie or a solid Eggs Benedict. Just donât expect exceptional coffee or...
Read moreI went here for lunch while attending a business conference and the service was awful. When I walked in not a single one of the staff greeted me. I had to ask for a menu after looking around, not seeing one and no one bothering to ask if they could help me. After looking at the menu for several minutes no one asked if they could help me find anything. When I did decide what I want I walked up to the counter at which point the hostess then began ringing out other guests. After the 2nd one I asked if I could please order now at which point she got smart and stated that she didn't know I was ready (yet she knew everyone else standing there was ready to pay). After placing my order, I stood inside and was only ever greeted by GUESTS not by one single staff member. After around 10 minutes, my food was ready. I walked outside and looked in my bag and didn't see cutlery so went back inside and asked for it. The girl acted like she'd never heard the term "cutlery set" before and then showed one to me and rudely stated that she'd already put one inside of another bag that was placed in the larger bag. I used to work in food service and anytime I did that I let my customer know when I handed it to them. Just saying. Either way, I will not be going back as I didn't feel like their staff could've cared any less that I was there. The only reason I gave two stars is because the food was hot...
Read moreSo as far as a Perkins goes, this one is fine. The service and staff are decent and the place is clean enough. If you want to go to a Perkins, I had no problems with the place.
My problem is with Perkins in general. The company has been headed downhill for the past decade or more in all the places I've lived. One we used to go to in FL was closed right out from under us as an "underperforming location" even though it was always fairly busy. Then over the past several years, the food quality has slowly dropped off. For example, pancakes used to be top notch, but they got progressively and noticeably smaller and blander. Granny's Omelet got less substantial. Smaller muffins and fewer flavor choices. Then COVID hits, and the trifecta of higher prices, smaller menu, and, worst of all, smaller portions, is the last straw. It's just not a good value anymore to pay for what you're getting from them at this point. There are local places now where my money goes further and they deserve it to stay open. I empathize that it's harder for all restaurant establishments these days, but not putting out a good value for your customers just won't cut it no matter how hard the times are, and I don't feel Perkins does that anymore.
If you want to go to a Perkins, this one is fine. But in my opinion, Perkins in general isn't a place worth going, and I won't be...
