This is going to be a long review, but I can't help myself! I'd give Artis Senior Living of West Shore 23 stars if I could! I've been Mom's live-in caregiver for 2 years and we'd reached the point where I'd done all I could do and I needed help. Mom's dementia was causing anger towards me while being dependent on me for help with meals, insulin for her diabetes, and personal hygiene. I couldn't be out of her sight for more than 10 minutes and had to take her everywhere with me. She sat at home all day and watched tv. It wasn't sustainable any longer and I called Artis when I was at my wits end.
Serenity Hoch answered my call and I was lucky enough that they had an opening. She recognized I was having a hard time talking to her without mom overhearing so she offered to text me. Within 2 weeks we worked together and it was move-in day! That move-in was traumatic. Mom screamed and cried. The staff at Artis couldn't have been more professional. Somehow we got her to her room and they did everything they could to make her comfortable and help her get acclimated.
Here we are a month later - Mom is happy, has a core group of friends, and her diabetes is well managed. She loves the employees and says the food is great! When I go to visit everyone from management to nurses to CNAs to even the Culinary team knows Mom by name and sight. They know me and welcome me with open arms. They even let Mom's dog visit! They treat my mom like the loved person she is rather than focusing on her illness. They treat me like a member of their family and remind me that I'm allowed to have a life of my own. They were so happy for both of us when Mom had her first successful outing with us for her birthday! There are so many wonderful employees at Artis Senior Living of West Shore:
Marina Bardsley creates fun activities for the residents to participate in and always speaks of them with respect and compassion. She sends me pictures of Mom in activities and cheers me on, reminding me that part of being a caregiver is knowing when it's time to get help.
Gwen O'Neal worked with me to ensure they had an accurate listing of Mom's medicine and insulin schedule and she helped relieve my concerns about making sure her medical needs were taken care of. Gwen made sure they had thorough records and that they could successfully build on the care I'd been providing Mom.
All of the CNAs have been wonderful! Mom bonded with a particular CNA, Allison Knoble, on that first traumatic night and now she considers Allison one of her besties! Allison knows how to convince my mom to do anything and she lets me know if mom needs anything.
Tiffany was the nurse on duty that first traumatic weekend and she helped mom and I navigate those feelings and challenges. She made me confident that everything was going to be okay.
EVERYONE at Artis has been amazing. The only regret I had is that I waited so long to look into an...
Read moreIf you are looking for a safe and caring place for a loved one who also needs memory care, I would highly recommend Artis Senior Living in Lemoyne. My mother spent her last 2 ½ years at Artis. Like everyone, I spent a great deal of time trying to find the perfect place. After many visitations and research, I felt confident that Artis was the right fit for Mom. I found such comfort knowing that Mom was being taken care of when I couldn’t be there. There are some EXTREMELLY special people who work at Artis. I could tell that they are truly dedicated to the residents there. My mother’s life was enriched because some of them took the time to interact with her and looked out for her well-being. Wherever you go, you will find small things that you don’t like, or wish would change, and some employees that you don’t think are doing their jobs properly. But at Artis, the good ones clearly outweigh the bad. I also was impressed with their level of communication. If I ever had a question or concern, they were prompt with a reply and answers. Near the end, it looked like Mom was going to need skilled nursing care. It wasn’t until after exploring options and spending time in other facilities that I became even more grateful for the environment, care, and compassion that Artis provides. I truly felt like many of the employees were part of my extended family and I will always cherish the love and time that they gave to Mom...
Read moreArtis is an amazing place; I wish they would let me move in. My wife Doris's experience has been excellent and she is better off being there than staying with me. I couldn't provide the steady stimulation and care that she receives from the staff which I consider to be my new family. I look forward to visiting her almost daily because there are activities we can participate in together. I enjoy eating supper with her 2 to 3 times a week which I would avoid if the meals weren't well prepared.
The building's design has been well thought out to provide a home like atmosphere. Each of the four wings feels like its own neighborhood with a living room and dining room. And each wing has its own caring staff who are familiar with their 16 residents.
I find it somewhat frustrating in writing this review because it is difficult to convey in words the loving caring ambience of Artis. You really would benefit from talking to me or a spouse/relative...
