Ruined my son’s 11th birthday - valued business rules over good business! Unfortunately my oldest son and his dad found out they had to travel out of the Atlanta airport on our younger son’s birthday. Since our family of 6 doesn’t live near the Atlanta airport, I researched Atlanta breakfast restaurants online that were nearby the airport so that dad and older brother could celebrate with our 11 year old before they left. On our way to the restaurant, we saw online that the tsa line would be long. To speed up our breakfast experience, I called in half our order. IMPORTANT: the restaurant does not allow you to call in an order greater than $50 which is why I was only able to call in half the order. When we arrived at the restaurant, my husband went inside and was told that we could not eat in the restaurant since we had called in an order EVEN THOUGH we were not able to order our full meal. They had a sign posted indicating that you could not eat inside after placing a call-in order. The manager then apologized and reiterated this rule to me. Both my husband and I explained that we have been to restaurants where they have allowed you to eat after placing a call-in order especially considering the circumstances - trying to allow an 11 year old to celebrate with his dad and brother and the fact that we hadn’t even placed our full order. Rather than make a little boy’s day and just do good business this restaurant decided NOT to allow us to eat inside. I had two issues with this approach. First, these rules should be posted on the website. If you’re comfortable telling people these rules and posting signs in your restaurant, why aren’t these rules posted on your website? Don’t tell me that other restaurants abide strictly by these rules when I don’t see these same signs elsewhere. Then stick to the rules. While we were there asking for an exception that was denied, another customer broke a 2nd rule and sat down with their party after the initial party had already been seated. Don’t tell us no exceptions and make an exception while we’re standing there. There are times to have business rules and there are times when you just do good business. This restaurant chose not to do good business and ruined the start of my son’s birthday. It was even sadder that we didn’t get to have breakfast as a family and followed that with dropping my husband and son off at the airport. Even the Delta agent sensed our sadness and started to tear up. Do good business Thumbs Up Diner…the world...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant and it left me with an unpleasant taste in my mouth, both metaphorically and literally. I must say, my experience at this establishment was far from satisfactory. From the moment I stepped foot inside, it was clear that this place lacked the basic standards of cleanliness and hospitality. To begin with, the state of the restaurant's front area was utterly disheartening. Trash was scattered about, creating an unwelcoming environment right from the entrance. It was disappointing to witness such a lack of attention to cleanliness, as it immediately cast doubt on the overall hygiene standards of the establishment. Unfortunately, the disappointing experience didn't stop at the front. The employees, regrettably, were rude and unhelpful throughout my visit. It seemed as if they had little interest in providing genuine customer service or making our visit enjoyable. Their lack of enthusiasm was palpable, leaving us feeling neglected and unimportant. Moreover, the employees' lack of attentiveness became painfully evident when it came to addressing our concerns. Any attempts to seek assistance or inquire about sweeping the area we were sitting in was left with whispers to colleagues and laugher. It was incredibly frustrating to be treated in such a disrespectful manner, especially when we were genuinely hoping to have a pleasant dining experience at such a well known establishment. You would have thought the employees were on strike. Aside from the discouraging state of the restaurant and the unpleasant behavior of the employees, the overall atmosphere was lacking. The combination of the uncleanliness, the lack of hospitality, and the general disarray created an uncomfortable ambiance that made it nearly impossible to enjoy our meal. In light of this regrettable experience, it is with a heavy heart that I must advise others to steer clear of this particular restaurant. It is my sincere hope that the management will take these concerns seriously and make improvements to ensure a more pleasant and inviting dining experience for future patrons. As a food enthusiast and someone who values excellent service, it is always disheartening to encounter such a lackluster restaurant experience. Let's hope that this establishment can learn from its mistakes and strive towards providing the quality dining experience that every...
Read morePeople who know I love a good breakfast place have been telling me about Thumbs Up for a while. I never got there until yesterday. My mouth is still watering. This is my new favorite breakfast spot on my side of town. The food was amazing, plentiful. I had a skillet filled with sliced potatoes, onions and peppers, covered with cheese, chicken sausage and spicy shrimp and eggs served with a large wheat biscuit. Let's talk about this. The sausage was tasty and spread nicely in with the potatoes, but the shrimp... The shrimp were cooked to perfection, juicy, tender, just enough spice to make your mouth pop. And there were 7 or 8 of them - med to large. I've had skillets before at places like J. Christopher's and Twisted Soul Cookhouse and Pours. J. Christopher's is much smaller. Twisted Soul has more flavor, but is also pricier (of course). This was a perfect meal at a great price point. My dining companion and I were very hungry. I added cheese grits in anticipation of a smaller portion. I ate maybe two bites and couldn't finishthe skillet. The grits were creamy, but pedestrian in flavor. They would have been perfect to accompany another flavorful dish. And the biscuit was unexpectedly light and flavorful, by the way. My dining companion had a grilled chicken sandwich. She traded the rye bread for a bun and held the mushrooms. She added sliced tomato on the side. The slices were thick and meaty. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The dish came with a mountain of crispy French fries. I've been out to eat with her before. She's picky. She loved the meal. Our server was super sweet, patient and helpful. We came an hour before closing and he was still just as patient and sweet as if his day was just starting. He also was attentive to my friend's adorable 9-month-old grandaughter, which earned him brownie points. Our beverages were replaced as soon as we hit the bottom of our glasses. He was attentive without being intrusive. Overall, it was a good experience. I loved it here. I'll be back often. There is a turkey reuben with my name on it waiting to be eaten!! So many choices. I'll have to come twice in one day so I can have...
