I had been the El Patio's old location just a couple blocks east, but hadn't tried their new and updated spot. So I gave it a whirl for dinner last night.
The location is much nicer than their last, a long narrow interior with a partially open kitchen and a full bar with tequila flights on the menu. It's definitely a nice looking place on the inside and doesn't have the cleaning chemical odor of their last location.
The food, however, is majorly lacking. I ordered fajitas and when they order came out within 3-4 minutes after ordering, I was happy with the promptness. But after looking at my food, I could see why it was so quick. The onions and peppers were barely cooked and lacked any kind of seasoning. They also tossed broccoli into the fajita blend, which isn't exactly my idea of Mexican food. On top of that, the accompanying plate of beans and rice was supposed to include guacamole. But there was only about two teaspoons of guac, which was enough for one fajita. I paid $11.99 for an order of severely lacking veggie fajitas. This same order runs $9.99 at Cancun, another Mexican restaurant in town, which uses lots of quality veggies and seasoning and makes delicious fajitas. The chips and salsa at El Patio are also not very good. I love chips and salsa, but wasn't too interested in eating these.
The waitstaff was so-so. We had two servers. The female server was very nice and friendly. The male server was impatient and kept coming back to our table every few minutes to advance us along and get us out the door when the place wasn't busy.
I wanted to give the new location a try, but I won't be going back. I love that they are downtown, but it's not worth it. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in Eau Claire and all have...
Read moreThe staff is friendly. Unfortunately, they seemed more interested in chatting with each other and their friends, instead of efficient service, and serving tasty food.
When we arrived for dinner at 5 on Saturday, very few tables were occupied. The staff were busy chatting, and didn't notice we were waiting to be seated. I enquired if we should seat ourselves. They quickly cleaned a table for us directly across from the entrance to the bar and kitchen.
The men's restroom was out of paper towels. When I informed the staff, they apologized and said they've been very busy.
25 minutes after ordering, our food was nowhere to be seen, nor was the person who took our order. I asked another server about our food. He asked what we ordered, and brought the wrong order to our table. We explained the food delivered was not what we ordered. The waiter then corrected the problem.
Unfortunately the tacos were about the same quality and taste as tacos that might be served by an elementary school cafeteria. The chorizo enchiladas were also poor quality. The chorizo tasted burnt and dry like it has been scraped off the bottom of the pot.
Throughout or entire visit, not a single staff member went into the men's restroom to restock the paper towels. But they did get some quality fraternizing with other staff members and friends as they surely were mentally preparing to serve copious amounts of alcohol to the droves of thirsy college students expected to arrive soon on this "busy" Saturday night in...
Read moreMy first time ordering. I called ahead & ordered two chimichangas meals with carnta meat. Also paid in advance. I specifically asked to confirm the chimichangas were deep fried before placing my order and were told they were. Needless to say it was a half a burrito & fried on a grill not deep fried. So disappointing. I would of ordered from somewhere else if I knew. I specifically asked for no onions and where told there where no onions on this plate. Which there were onions mixed in with the lettuce & tamato. I was told pick up would be 5 to 10 min. It took me at least 15-minutes to arrive. When I arrived I was given someone else's order. Then waited for them to cook my food. Not to mention the other persons order I touched and they still sold it to the customer. Im sorry but with covid-19 going on they should of remade that customers food in my opinon. I will never order from El Patio again. I never give bad reviews but I am so displeased with every aspect of the interaction. I will say the carnia meat was good but again not what I ordered & expected after waiting for the cook to my order after I arrived. Sevice...
