The employee proudly and cheerfully announced "We are the first cashless Jimmy Johns!" when I offered $6 to pay for my $5 sandwich. They wanted me to use a credit/debit card to pay for a $5 sandwich. Even if you ignore the perils of using cards (identify theft, inability to monitor your spending in real-time, etc), the fact remains that anyone who enters this place without a plastic card/chip will not eat - one of the basic necessities of life.
That means people who are disgusted by the tracking of personal information through plastic/chips will not eat there. Many poor people will not eat there. Most of Minnesota's 10,000 homeless people (many of whom work for a living - off camera) are not allowed to eat there.
They present this policy as hip and chic. But it is discriminatory and dangerous to their customers' well-being. No Jimmy Johns will ever receive my business again. But if you want to visit a typically pretentious Minnesota business that hides its prejudice against poor people behind a bunch of babble about modernization and the way of the future, then go ahead and let them do their work on you, oblivious to what is really going on. 25 minutes to get a JJ slim from mobile order!
I came inside to watch them make orders for 6 walk in customers who ordered at the checkout and waited for their sandwiches…picked them up and walked out. I’m still waiting for my sandwich from my mobile order. Yes I checked in when I arrived and waited in my car for 10 minutes watching people go in and out!!!! Then walked inside to see ridiculous travesty in person!
