I was for the most part pleased with my experience at this establishment. While it had its ups and downs, I do believe the positives outweigh the negatives for an overall good experience. We had a bit of a slow start as it took a while for us to get our drink orders in, but I feel fancy places are typically that way. What I did not like was being served diet coke in a bottle. That is a restaurant's language for no free refills which I can’t stand. Aside from rationing my soda because I do not want to spend 3 bucks to refill it, the food was good. I enjoyed the fries and most of the appetizers that we ordered and even the bread was quite good. I was also impressed with their drink selection as they seemed to have a ton of options. The only downside to the apps were the coconut shrimp because they left the tails on. I can’t stand that either, if it is not meant to be consumed, I would rather it not be on my plate. I also do not want to make a mess of taking the tail off, I feel shrimp should come with only the known edible parts so there is no mess or frustration. I did very much appreciate the honesty of our waitress as well. I originally ordered the prime rib sandwich special and she informed me it was on the fatty side. She quite possibly saved my meal because one thing I do not like even more so than tail on shrimp, is fatty meat. I understand fat gives it flavor but the perfect balance is often hard to find. For that, shout out to our waitress for being honest. I then ordered the sliced filet which was a success. While it was a bit chewy for me, it was seasoned perfectly and went great with the unions. I absolutely loved the fries as well, they were crispy and delicious. These did not taste like fast food fries, they were the real deal and I was a bit sad when finishing them which is a good thing. The portion sizes were also very good; a lot of the time at restaurants food tastes great but lacks on portion. This place gave a generous amount of food for the main courses and I was very much satisfied afterwards. The desserts were very good, and I was lucky enough to taste a few such as the brownie, key lime pie, and my favorite being the blueberry crumb gelato. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a nice fine dining experience. I would just suggest bringing fountain soft drinks into the mix because free refills would be nice, and because it is incredibly cheap too. The thing is I go through around 5-6 diet cokes per meal and it would be nice to have the security of knowing that cheap soda isn’t going to cost me as much as a side dish added up. It is that much easier to elevate the experience that much more, but that is just my opinion. Also, take those tails of the shrimp please! Otherwise, an overall positive experience and I would consider coming back depending on who...
Read moreEvery year for my birthday I do a girls day. This year we spent the day at Sojo Spa (highly recommend!) and then I always end with a high quality steak dinner (Capital Grille is my go to but not near Sojo). So we research reviews in the area and found River Palm.
So we left the spa and headed to the restaurant.
Valet parking -great always nice not to have to deal with finding parking.
We got inside and the atmosphere is dark and felt like an older crowd kinda place. So we went to the hostess stand and I simply said we have a reservation, gave her my name, and innocently asked “is it possible to have a booth”. Mind you this is my first time here, I see booths so why not ask right. The hostess was snippy and said we don’t have booths you booked upstairs. Completely rude. Not a good start but I can ignore an ignorant hostess for some good steak.
Got seated upstairs and had 3 wait staff taking care of us. Very nice gentlemen. We ordered some drinks and then appetizers. My daughter got the crispy rice roll as an appetizer, my friend got the French onion soup, and I got the crab cakes. All the apps were spot on. Crab cakes are delicious, zero filler.
So we ordered our dinner. My daughter got the filet mignon medium rare which came with onion rings. Her steak was overdone and tasteless, zero seasoning and onion rings were oily. My friend got a NY steak medium well, again no seasoning. I got a NY steak medium. My plate was wet with I’m not sure what “juices” kinda looked like watery butter. Steak was overcooked and tasteless. We shared the Asparagus which was OK but nothing special and we shared the loaded hash browns with were just weird. Barely anything in them.
We were like ok well we are here let’s get dessert again the reviews were so good. We got a banana split which was ok and we got chocolate banana cream pie. The pie sounded so good. Well…. Here’s our description of it “dry heavy and bitter”. We both left most of it on the plate. It really was not edible.
It is definitely a birthday dinner to remember for spending $435 (before tip) for three people to be totally disappointed. I would not recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a good steak or dessert. To be honest Texas roadhouse seasons, a...
Read moreMy family's outdoor reservation was today at 5 PM, but our table was ignored for an hour because the shift of whoever was in charge didn't start until 6 PM. During our hour-long wait, I appealed to the lady at the front desk and a few servers passing by, but everyone was simply too busy, or they assured me that the right server would arrive soon. An hour later, seeing that we were still just eating from the pre-meal bread basket, a server not responsible for our table kindly offered to assist us until our server arrived, but he too (understandably) was busy with his own tables. At my wits' end, I asked for the manager, hoping that he could assign us a server or figure something out. Having just read this restaurant's low-star reviews, I now understand that it suffers terribly from an incompetent and unsympathetic management. First, the manager replied as if I was overreacting, insisting that our table must have been attended to by someone over the hour-long period (sure, we were given bread and water while every other table was placing orders). Then, upon finding the temporary server at our table, the manager had the audacity to say we'd been given an "upgrade" since the temporary server was excellent. The rest of my experience here is a blur because I was so upset and dumbfounded by the manager's conduct.
Since this restaurant is doing well, I guess the management doesn't give a damn about complaints. Regardless of what my review says, the restaurant's popularity will probably continue. But if anybody cares, you need not bother seeking out the management about a problem; they'll turn a deaf ear, and I don't seem to be the only one with that experience. Avoid outdoor seating since the quality of service there is very uneven.
The food was great, and I appreciate that our temporary server offered us a complimentary salad (he was wonderful). But as a human with dignity, I'll never return to the River Palm Terrace. I hope the manager learns accountability at some point, if not at work, then in life. I don't know what I ever did to deserve taking my precious Saturday night time out to sit down and write...
