Had been years since I'd had an opportunity to eat here again. Last visit was Spring of 2002. I ordered the lunch special which was a chicken fried steak with two sides and a slice of Texas Toast. Our waitresses were very attentive and all in all it was a great food experience and I will be coming more often as it had been far too long since I'd eaten at the restaurant.
In regards to the CFS quality it was very good although just a tad bit under seasoned. I'd recommend seasoning the meat directly with season salt then battering the steak. Gravy was nice and peppery. Hand cut fries which separate anything that the competition has to offer. The corn and Texas toast were buttery and delicious along with an ice cold Coca-Cola to wash it down. All in all a great experience and my wife and I enjoyed our meal. I asked about desert options although sadly there were none available. I think a nice slice of apple pie or pecan pie would be great offerings. Hopefully management will consider offering this...
Read moreWe stopped here while visiting friends, during our weeklong vacation they were kind enough to show us the hotspots. After we perused the livestock we had breakfast here, albeit a liquid breakfast ie a Bloody Mary, so it may be inaccurate that I rated the food so highly but it looked and smelled wonderful. The Bloody was fantastic and the staff was more than welcoming, in fact the scheduled bartender was running late so one of the gals from the cafe crafted our drinks and chatted with us. If only those walls could talk after a sales day! When we come back next year, we'll have to come back and have a more substantial breakfast on the cafe side! It was definitely...
Read moreI ordered 2 takeout meals from their lunch specials. When I got there to pick up the restaurant was pretty packed and the atmosphere was great and The workers were very friendly. The food smelled great as I was heading home. When I took a bite I felt extremely disappointed. The country fried steak has no flavor/seasoning on both the crust or the steak. The mashed potatoes tasted like the powdered ones you got as a kid at school lunch. The corn tasted like it was just taken out of a can. French fries were really greasy and had no salt. I will never go back and order from here again. It is a shame as the place feels very inviting, but their food is the worst I have tried in the RGV. I am only rating based...
