We were hungry for fish and we had been real fans of "Off the Hook" before they closed, so we decided to try Bayou Jaq's. We arrived for an early dinner and there was nobody else seated. We both ordered Catfish with Okra. The combo platters and King Crab looked to be a a little overpriced, so we thought we would try catfish dinner. The food was not bad. I was hoping it would be great, but it was not as good as we had eaten previously at a couple of other places.
2 of the tables we considered for seating were dirty and needed to be clean. We picked another table that had only crumbs on it; we wiped them off and sat there. This seemed unusual, considering the time of day and that nobody was sitting at the restaurant.
I saw on my bill that there was a SRV Tax; I have never heard of this, before. I did a quick search on the internet and could not find an explanation, so when a server stopped by, I asked what the SRV Tax meant. She explained it was for plates, forks, and other items needed to serve the food. The tax was only 3% ( as I recall) so it was not the money, but it was the principle. Why add an extra charge beyond what is shown on the menu? Everybody understands they have to pay local and state taxes, but SRV tax is not a government tax. I can understand the establishment wanting to cover the cost of the items required to serve the food, but it would be more transparent and upfront to just include it in the price listed on the menu, rather than tacking it on.
I gave the restaurant 4 stars, but I doubt we will eat there again. I think Edmond needs a restaurant like this, but the food will need be exceptional, in my opinion. I hope they make it. The people working there seemed nice and they stopped by to check on us before...
Read moreOkay I work in a higher end kitchen and cook a lot of things due to my job and experiences in other “southern kitchens” so I don’t leave a lot of reviews. Me and my wife have been coming here since they opened. We love this place, the ambiance service, and food. My wife loves and I mean loves their chicken. Boneless or bone in. I have tried almost every darn thing on their menu except cod (that’s because I’m not a big fish person) BUT their catfish is what made me venture out past salmon and catfish. It is perfectly flaky and the seasoning is *chefs kiss” I am also partial to their tartar and cocktail sauce. The next to last time we went I got the Jr. crab and shrimp combo ((plenty for one person) spicy butter + cajun seasoning. Oh my lord it’s amazing trust.)I kid you not top 5 things I’ve ever had. Everything was hot and fresh. Amazing seasoning and flavor plus next visit, I got my wife to share a crab cluster with me after trying my previous plate. To be fair it was regular butter this time around because she can’t handle spice. But the crab was not hot or even warm. It was busier this time around so idk if this had an affect. It was room temp at best and the Togo tray was half potatoes (I get It). But the lady at the counter I wish I remembered her name for the life of me. Was amazing. She remembered us and gave us a hospitable experience. Absolutely amazing and we wish every restaurant gave us this quality of service of that...
Read morewelp, not sure what is going on. placed an online order at 1;21pm for 6;15 pick-up. when my father-in-law got there to pick it up.....they couldn't find it. They did expedite it, but that didn't help. this was what my 10yr old wanted for her birthday. where to begin....ordered 3 extra corn, didn't not receive them, but certainly still charged for them. ordered a BASKET of fries....it was a literal dozen. asked for original seasoning on the side of the crab legs and claws.....since my kid doesn't like much spice.....it was clearly seasoned ON the cluster. I know they struggle with good employees, bit this is unacceptable to me. they did offer my father-in-law a free beverage for waiting, all for $137 meal (including tip). the absolute best part?!? good luck trying to call them! the online order system is through a 3rd party as well. while the food is good.......I'm not sure we will continue to patronize them. what a shame.....atleasts there still...
