My family and I have been going to Chicos all over El Paso for decades. It used to be a place we’d go to enjoy a cheap decent meal that hit our cravings. The food is ok. It’s Chicos. The locals know what you’re getting here. It’s simple. Nothing too great. Usually not bad. The chairs aren’t comfortable but they’re not terrible. The air conditioning is provided by outdated evaporated air units. This is miserable in the summer and makes it difficult to eat a hot meal while sweating. On top of this, we’re now expected to pay more. We used to go to Chicos at the end of our paycheck for a cheap meal. Now with 3 average adults who are hungry, we’re looking at $40+ for the same old Chicos. I can see why some people would rather eat at another establishment with better quality food for that price. It’s not like we’re eating gourmet here. There’s fast food options that have arguably better food at cheaper prices. With a high school, medical school and medical hospital down the street, you’d think they’d capitalize and offer combos or easy order items for people who are coming in for lunch that may not know the menu well. You Can easily make a Single, fries and a drink a combo at a fair price. Or what about refills for the drinks? Charging extra for the same food isn’t a good business move. Chicos has practically doubled in price the last 5-10 years. Chicos is a great El Paso favorite that I will continue to eat at when the craving strikes. But it’s not remarkable. They’ve cleaned up the place and the service has gotten better. But the prices aren’t reasonable and may keep people from making Chicos their first or second choice because of it. The “a la carte” approach is outdated. This specific location is in a lower income area. So to have these prices is a little absurd. Also other restaurants have their own versions of the tacos and even round hotdogs at cheaper prices. One is to think that it’s cheaper and tastes better to make it at home if you’re a true Chicos lover. That’s why I give it a 2/5 stars.

My love for Chicos Tacos is mostly driven by nostalgia. My grandpa would bring my brother and I to Chicos throughout our childhood and it was all happy memories. My brother and I would play on the arcade game while we waited for our food. We would get a couple of single servings of Chicos with a side of fries, a hotdog, and a soda. After I finished my tacos (which are actually flautas not tacos) I would dump in my french fries to soak up the delicious red chile sauce before eating them. I went all through high school with friends because it was cheap, delicious, and a chill place to hang out. Lots of good memories then too. I sometimes stop by when I visit El Paso but I must admit for the sake of an honest food review, that the food is not the same as it once was. I know the cheese supplier changed a while back and so the flavor isn't the same there. And the links used in the hotdogs are not the same either. I still like the food but it doesn't have the same kick as it once did. Most importantly, the prices skyrocketed so now poor high school students can't exactly afford it either! But in the end, it good food and always a good time.

This is a staple and a must for many El Pasoans. I had been at this place a couple of times however, their cash only policy turned me away each time. Finally the day came and I was able to taste their famous flautas (fried rolled tacos). I got a single/small order (they have single and double) and a drink. I did noticed a lot of people get fries (crinkle) with their order. The flautas are covered in shredded American cheese and douced in quite a bit of their famous sauce (which in my opinion is nothing more than tomato puree with onions and garlic). The temperature of the sauce melts the cheese which turns into a rather peculiar mixture. You eat the flautas while also sipping from the sauce in the plate. My veredict is as follows. There is nothing special on either the sauce, the cheese or the flautas, however when they all come together something peculiar happens and turns this otherwise awkward dish into something "craveable". I started feeling disappointed however I ended up planing my next trip. So, before you head their way make sure you have cash and be ready to be surprised.

Visited this location a couple of days ago. It pains me to give this place that holds a special place in my heart such a bad review but I had to do it. Their food is just not the same. I don't know if it's the quality of ingredients being used or the lack of love and care for the food being made. At this location in particular the rolled tacos(flautas)were awful. Very little crunch to them, almost seemed as if they didn't fry them enough, the sauce and cheese were ok. The green salsa was still good. I also got the beef stew burrito, the stew meat was tough and lacking flavor big time, the burrito itself was wrapped extremely sloppy. Was it dropped and still sent out or do they not know how to roll a burrito? Not sure. In general their food quality has gone down, I went to another location 2 weeks ago and the food is just not that good anymore, NOT WORTH their prices in my opinion. I don't appreciate them increasing their prices so much but yet the restaurants look not so clean and their food quality instead of at least staying the same has gone down. If anyone from their organization is reading this, please have your employees and management take more pride in what they are doing and putting out to the public. The fact that you all have been an El Paso staple for so long and most El Pasoans are die hard fans has kept you afloat all this time but you all need to do better. I apologize for not having pictures, I have a rule with my daughters to not have phones at the table. If you've never had Chicos , I still encourage you to check them out at your OWN RISK but if you are on a budget w/a few family members this is NOT the...

I rate 1 stars only because i can honestly say there are a few good workers who are trying their hardest to operate and deliver. This Chicos Tacos needs to close down, demolish the building, and build a new one. Clearly there is a very high demand so there is no reason to not invest in this location. First thing you will notice when you walk in is that there is so much filth on the roof panels which sit above your head. All of them are stained, filthy, and who knows if they have problems building underneath such as asbestos. They do not have the infrastructure to accept credit/debit cards. The tables and chairs are the same as 25 years ago... im not exagerating on that number. There is a jukebox which was my favorite growing up, it's broken. You can't select any music or even insert money. It just plays very bad music. The lighting is poor. There used to be arcade games growing up. There is only one cashier. The vibes from the staff are hostile and I can empathize because they have to work in such bad work conditions. This last time i went, the sauce for the tacos was not the same. The staff look so stressed out and overworked. I will not be returning until there is a new building and better working conditions for employees. I would advise to find a different restaurant before you are also disappointed. To be upfront, the demand exists, the workers are passionate, and the business owners are not investing in this place which makes me assume alot of their underlying intentions of serving this community. A texas pride turned into a...
