La Gorda Mexican Food — Restaurant in El Paso

Employees are horrible and rude. They don't care about service. I only come here because the burritos are inexpensive and I like them. After years of coming here weekly I think I've had enough of their attitude. Going down the street to Tonys Burrito House where i only have to deal with one rude worker. On today's visit I was the only person there. I ordered papas con chorizo burrito. After 10 minutes of waiting I noticed the employees were just standing there talking and not doing anything. I figured they had forgotten my burrito so I asked if it was ready. Employee stated "No" with no further explanation. They continued standing and talking and obviously not busy. I asked her how much longer would it be ready and she started " I don't know". She just stared at me and appeared confused so i asked her "you do know that i ordered a burrito"? Employee stated "Yes" and didn't even bother to check on my order. I just walked away and went back to my table. Several minutes later another employee who appeared indifferent nonchalantly told me the order was ready. Not even a smile with the service but what else...

This place is one of the few where you can get decent mexican stews with a homemade taste for a reasonable price, wich is the reason it has become popular. Unfortunately there are very negative aspects to their service: they seem understaffed, unorganized, lack of a good customer service, the drive thru is a joke, is always packed because is super slow. I've been there several times, the latest issue I had was a mixed order, I ordered burritos, instead got gorditas not exactly the way I wanted them, the asado wasn't good, the meat was not cut correctly, the rellenos were spicy and very dry. I called to place my order because I was in a hurry, when I get there I make a line to pay, and of course my order wasn't ready, they made me wait like all the walk ins, then what's the point of taking orders by phone? Oh well. Hope my review is useful to someone thinking of making the mistake to go there expecting a better service. UPDATE: Drive thru is even slower, and they'll tell you to move forward and wait for your order behind the building and they'll just...

The people working there looked upset being there. It was my first time there and it will be the last. I asked the lady what she recommended and annoyed she responded everything is good. I went ahead and placed my order. As I looked to see them making all the food I noticed the ladies that had been working the register (handling money) not only not wash their hands BUT were grabbing the tortillas and gorditas w their bare hands!!!! I have worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years and I know that's a HUGE NO! you cannot touch ready to eat foods with your bare hands! Especially after handling money.
