I came to Tapizôn for an event where I got to try their food for free, but I will be back because the people, the food, the music, the location, and the overall atmosphere were awesome!
The items I was able to try:
CHEESY DICE 4.5/5 This was one of my favorites. I was expecting more of a cheese flavor, but that didn’t detract from the dish. They have a chewy inside with crunchy outside. Imagine fried tapioca and that’s what this is like. The real star of the show is the sweet and spicy açaí sauce; it is fantastic with this! I’ve never had anything like it.
PUMPKIN SOUP VEGANA 3.5/5 I am a huge pumpkin soup fan, so I was really looking forward to this dish. Tapizôn’s version is vegan and thus lacks the heaviness from traditional recipes which include lots of cream. It had a ginger forward taste which I really enjoyed. My only comment is that in my opinion, it needed more salt.
GARLIC FRIED CHICKEN 3/5 These had a very mild garlic flavor; it wasn’t in your face. Most of the pieces had a great crunch, but a few were soggy. The lemon added a good acidity and I loved the additional flavor of the pickled onions. The dipping sauce provided was togarashi mayo, although I didn’t taste a lot of togarashi.
AHI TUNA CRUDO 5/5 This was another favorite. This was so flavorful and the fish was so fresh. Yum! And I loved the tapioca paper chips.
MOQUECA 4.5/5 This was a very mild fish which is how I like ‘em! I loved the peppers in it which contrasted well with the coconut cream. My only comment is that this also seemed to be under salted.
BRAZILIAN BRIGADIERO 3.5/5 This dessert was surprising due to its consistency; I expected it to be a spoonful of chocolate pudding but man was it thick! It took time to eat… which meant more time to savor the flavor.
ORIGINAL CAIPIRINHA 4.5/5 I enjoyed this cocktail and would get it again. It’s both light and refreshing. Mine was very lime forward in flavor. I would like to try their passion fruit flavored cocktail next time!
PRIMA PAVE - Rosé dolce 5/5 I wish I asked for a second glass of this! I love that this is a nonalcoholic alternative for people who like wine.
In addition to the wonderful food, original caipirinha cocktail, and non-alcoholic wine- all of which were fantastic, we also had the good fortune to try different flavors of a Brazilian energy drink brand called Soda Bossa.
SODA BOSSA 5/5 I tried the passion fruit, guayana berry, and dragon fruit Pitaya flavors. My favorite was the passion fruit, because I’m obsessed with the sweet and sour flavor of that fruit. My second favorite was the guayana berry, followed by my third, the dragon fruit Pitaya. However, all of them were good and definitely something I would buy instead of traditional/common energy drinks. Soda Bossa is a much healthier and tastier option.
I had a wonderful time, ate some delicious food, and now know a new place to go to. I definitely recommend you give this place a try and bring friends so you can share several dishes. Your experience, of course, will be different because I was here for an event, but I hope it will be equally as wonderful. And I can recommend them if you’re interested in hosting an event there because they did a...
Read moreOur table was not set up when we were brought to it, which was an experience in itself. We were seated at the very front near the entrance on the left but we were brought right instead, through to the back of the restaurant basically on a tour to show off the decor and bar area before we were brought back to the entrance and sat at the table. We ended up right next to where we started.
Since our table wasn't set up we had no utensils until they noticed while serving us our food. A server, not ours but one just passing by, saw that we didn't have plates or utensils and went back to get them but only brought 3 sets. We had a table of four. She apologized after verbally going through an "ah ha!" moment where I'm guessing she actually counted us and realized she missed one. So she went back and brought another. Then, our tables server came back to check on us. We didn't tell her anything because we kinda just wanted to eat and leave at this point.
The drinks we got were undersized as well. The 2 martinis we ordered were put in tasting glasses that were about half the size of a martini glass while being priced at full size prices. A normal martini glass holds up to 10oz. This one looked more like 6oz. They tasted normal so no complaints there.
The food was also like the martinis. Pretty undersized for the price. It tasted fine but nothing stood out to anyone. We lifted the mood with jokes and someone said the best tasting thing they had was the olive in her martini. It was meant just for laughs, but we laughed because, since nothing really stood out and we had to order sides separately and share, it fit. All the taco plates only come with 1 taco and an explanation that the flour they use is made from tapioca and is very filling. They weren't any more filling than normal though. My pot pie was basically shepherds pie but with cubes of beef rather than ground. It wasn't bad but was not very seasoned, just like most shepherds pies. It was a perfect neutral: there was no negatives or positives. It was just okay. The best tasting thing in reality was the collard greens. They weren't soft which seemed weird and as though they only spent 3 mins on them. Might be how Brazil does it so that's my bad, I was expecting soft like the southern style since I've never heard of any other. They were tasty though after the initial bitterness.
I'd go back if it was 50% off. It wasn't bad, just...
