If there’s a place in LA with more first print and actually vintage records for sale, I haven’t found it! In fact, I’ve never seen a more extensive selection of records to buy in any store I’ve ever been in. This is THE PLACE to buy vinyl if you’re a collector - either pro or hobbyist. It might take some time searching and the store is probably not perfectly suited to those who have any phobia of tight spaces, but that being said it’s a must for vinyl enthusiasts. They also have record players and sound systems for sale, not just records. There are also tons of clothes, home goods, antiques and vintage finds of all kinds. There’s a whole backlot that’s hard to describe. You just have to see it to believe it! Unusual is a great word. Owners Sally and Laurence are so fun to chat with, just so nice and friendly; and they’re great with their prices. I loved the cat! I also appreciated that they’ll take basically any form of payment and are hip with Venmo and PayPal if you need that. Hope they stay around....
Read moreWe were taking a trip to finally see Randy's Donuts, the giant Donut in El Segundo, so I looked up other things to do around here and found out about Studio Antiques.
Honestly, this places floats between a 3 and a 4... it's not huge, and feels more average than awesome... but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and go with 4 stars because it is unique in that it feels more like you're a picker. It isn't organized or displayed particularly well, but that kind of makes it fun because you can go through stuff. And the gem is in the back where they've created a pickers section that are rooms built of junk. I didn't find anything too cool... but it was art! So that has to be respected.
The prices were good, and I bet they get new things in all the time, so maybe they just didn't have things that interested me as much this time. Unlike many large antique malls that warrant their own trip... I'd say, this isn't worth a trip by itself, but if you're in El Segundo, for sure...
Read moreI stumbled upon Studio Antiques yesterday, as I was looking for local record stores. Awesome place and awesome experience. The owners, Laurence and Sally made me feel right at home as I perused the endless sea of vinyl records spanning multiple rooms. In fact, there are so many records that there isn't enough time to go through them all. I found some clean albums and the pricing was fair for everything I got. Just know that pricing is based on discogs and some stuff is priced at checkout if it doesn't have a price on it already. The experience is unlike what you'll get at a typical record store, as you can hunt and dig through a large selection, which is a lot of fun if you're into that sort of thing. I was told that they are acquiring more records every day so I will definitely be a regular. Thanks guys for an awesome time and experience!
P.s. thanks Laurence for ordering the fish and chips for us from the Cafe down the road. Never had a store owner order me food while I...
