Tere Taqueria y Antojitos — Restaurant in Elgin

Was in the area and found this place. The food here is ---homemade deliciousness!! I ordered the chilaquiles verdes con huevo (egg), it was very spicy, but it was delicious! The tortilla (chips) used in the dish, tasted fresh and homemade, I quite enjoyed that! My husband had the steak tacos, which he enjoyed. The salsas were very tasty and spicy! I also ordered the small sope con maíz morado (purple corn) de Rajas (sliced peppers & onions) and I was blown away! Purple corn is not something that you find served in most mexican restaurants so it was really a rare find and I had to try. The food was seasoned perfectly, oh and la agua de Jamaica (hibiscus tea), was sooooo good! Literally, the best I have ever had, --not overly sweet, fresh (no flavor packets used lol), it was just perfection! I will definitely recommend this place to everyone and I cant wait to go back and try more items!

Update 9/8/25-- Tried something new, Huevos Rancheros, so gooood!! Note: I ate one before i took picture, you get 3. Seriously the worst costumer service ever. Have tried to give this place so many tries and they always disappoint. First time they mest up the order. But ok no big deal went back they fixed it. Next time we ordered we called they picked up and was put on hold and they never came back to the phone. After 10 min I hung up and called again and the phone was disconnected. Now tried calling again tonight and the girl that picked up the call was giving me attitude of how I was ordering my food and when I asked for no beans to just give me rice instead she said ok but it’s going to be extra. So then I said never mind and she got mad. Seriously...

I have been coming to this place since day one and it has always been great. The food is always a hit, the taco special is one of the best in town, they don’t cut back like the other places you get full size tacos. The burrito, it comes with a side of side of rice and beans as default. The quesadilla is a folded 12” tortilla. I can keep on going, but it’s best to try it.
