Mia's Cantina — Restaurant in Elk Grove Township

I've eaten here twice. Once as a pick up the order and the second time dining in for my wedding anniversary.

This place is probably the best restaurant in downtown mount prospect in terms of food. I'm obsessed with the fresh guacamole and the fish tacos. When I ordered for pick up, it was the middle of the week, and the food was great! I was shocked at the size of my fish cuts in the tacos.

The second time I went, we dined in (outside). It was lovely being on the corner of a quiet street. It was a pretty chill vibe. My husband and I ordered the same thing we previously ordered. The pictures below are from that experience. My husband loves the flank steak mid-rare. No complaints there. Now (sadly), my fish tacos (dining in )weren't as good as my first experience. The pieces were super small and the side portions were really small! But even though the food size was different the flavors were all still there. I just really appreciate the taste of this food.

::::Update :: I have since been back 3 times! Each time getting the fish tacos and their AMAZING veggie tacos with (zucchini and black beans)! Each time I went the tacos were soooooooooo good! I think the one time I had the less than stellar fish was a glitch in the matrix lol! Also there is a super sweet server named Erica, always trust her recommendations ! She knows that menu and gives great descriptions...

The customer service was awful... the food was delicious and the bus boy was friendlier and more attentive to us than our server (Janeth R). She basically wrote us off like a bad check, and didn't check on us in terms of asking if we needed refills on our drinks or extra napkins. This is our second visit to Mia's and upon arrival, they prepped our table, but didn't bother to check if the utensils were placed. We had to ask the bus boy for them, who he in turn, delivered what we needed right away and with a welcoming attitude. Given my past experience as a server, I know first hand how thankless the job is, we believe in giving a large tip and we make sure we are easy customers... Just like a server wants to give us an enjoyable dining experience, we strongly believe in giving that in return to the server. I don't know if she ignored us because she figured we were a family of 5 and we weren't going to tip her, but it really bothered us that she paid more attention to other patrons more and didn't treat us equally. We will never come back to Mia's, if this type of customer service continues, the business is going to suffer. Again, the food was delicious and the bus boy was great, but our server was subpar AND we noticed how Janeth ONLY lingered to see if we signed the check! That was an insult and felt like she was trying to make...

Sorry to say goodbye to mia’s. This was one of my go to places for Mexican food, unfortunately it’s been going downhill last couple months. I usually go with 6 of my friends or with my wife and 2 kids, but my las 3 visits have been disappointing to say the least. Food takes longer, there’s always mistakes with the orders, there’s no manager present to acknowledge any of this mistakes, one occasion there were mistakes on 3 of our entrees but I couldn’t find my waitress (I think she was new) to let her know, so we ate around those mistakes, 20 minutes later when she came close to our table, I told her about the mistakes on our plates but she said she couldn’t do anything about it since we ate most of them, since it was the weekend and the place look busy we didn’t make much of it so we ask for our check and left. So we decided to give mia’s one more try this last Tuesday and to our surprise we got the same waitress and her service hasn’t improved there were mistakes in our order and poor attitude, but this time the most unpleasant thing was that the whole place was so loud, the staff yelling at each other and the music so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation.
