I live in the south area of Sac. Been living here for years and have always driven by Engawa Fusion. It is a very unassuming little hole-in-the-wall type of place. It sits right next to a smog shop. I have passed this place for years on my way to Costco’s on Stockton Blvd. My wife and daughter really like sushi. I do not enjoy it at all, so when we go out for sushi, we try to find places that serve other food that I can eat. One day (a little over a year ago) I was looking for a sushi place to treat the family to. Some place that we had not been to. While looking up sushi places I was surprised to see Engawa Fusion in google maps with particularly good reviews. I could not believe it. Not that little place by the smog shop. I decided to give it a try. I drove the family there as a surprise. You should have seen the look on their faces as I pulled into the parking lot. I just told them that it was a new Japanese fusion place that I heard of. They were very apprehensive about the place judging by its appearance. It is a quaint intimate place, quiet inside, and very clean. Small friendly staff and a small menu. They do not offer too many items, but what they do offer, they do well. They are known for their sushi tacos (you gotta see them for yourselves). I got a few for the ladies, and a bowl of ramen for myself. While I do not eat sushi, I could tell that it was very good. Judging by the looks on my girls faces and the fact that they were telling me how good and fresh everything was. It looked amazing, the way it was presented, very much eye candy. I could have taken a bite. They looked just that good. My ladies don’t give all the sushi places the best criticism, and they were just a shocked as I was by this place. We have been to many sushi spots and only have stuck with a few. Those tacos totally dispelled our view of the place. I can’t tell you how many times they have ordered those sushi tacos, snuck out to that place, or asked me to pick up some on the way home. Today is my “onliest” daughter’s B-Day, which prompted me to give this review, because I can’t think of a better surprise for her than a couple of those Engawa Fusion sushi tacos. I sending this review before I go there so I’ll add a picture or two later. This is a great place to dine. Nice for a dinner, GREAT for an intimate date. You won’t get enough, and you’ll want to go back. They deserve every star. I speak for the most particular eaters that I know.
PS, they make a good bowl...
Read moreCame here with hubby & 8 yo for lunch. Was seated right away. Menu was simple but filling for us. What we ordered Gyoza = good
Fries = perfection, would been even better if we had ranch but they did have ketchup but was great either way
Shoyu Ramen = big portion however, broth tasted watered down but noodle texture was really good; if only the broth was better. Definitely will not be ordering this ramen again.
Mixed Tempura = eh, it's tempura but it's the sauce that didn't do it for me, flavorless.
Tuna Taco = sushi in taco form; tuna was really good but i would've liked to have a side of Wasabi to mix with soy sauce so I could pour a lil bit over it. They didn't bring any out or offer it so I assumed not an option & didn't ask. Also, a bit messy to eat but I held it together for the most part, lol...tuna mostly fell off so I took it off and put it on a plate then added it back on evertime I took a bite.
Okinawa Milk Tea = wish they'd ask me how sweet I like it; not sure if that was an option or not but it looked so good
Water = tap water with no ice...none... nada...no signs about ask for ice if needed, just tepid tap water on a hot summer day. Also, I shouldn't have to ask considering it's a hot summer day & if they don't do ice water, they should've informed us so we could ask for ice for pur waters.
Ambience = lotsa great natural light & clean
Service = wonderful; quick, friendly, came to check on us often enough & food came out fairly quickly
Go again? Maybe. If I'm in the area, must have japanese/sushi like food then I'd definitely try it again except I'll try their Dons (rice plates) and maybe their other ramen to see if the broth is better since it is pork/chicken based.
Recommendation = 50/50. If you're in the area and want Japanese or sushi like food, then yes, come give this place a try. Otherwise don't go out of your way to come here. And if it's a hot day, make sure you let them know you'd like ice water or you'll get...
Read moreOk, first time here & we will be going back for sure!!! Ordered the taco sake (salmon) and taco tuna. These were to die for. More sushi than pretty much any roll you can get anywhere. The taco shells were amazing in crunch & flavor. The shells didn't just break when you took a bite like a cheap pre made shell, these held together. Both had rice at the bottom, then all the fixings on top of that and the fresh, succulent, flavorful sushi on top just amazing, and we can't wait to go back and try more. We also ordered the Miso Ramen. Now, we will not be going back for the ramen just because of the lack of flavor. The noodles were fresh, the pork was good, and so was most of the stuff inside. The bowl was larger than most ramen's, and the price was really good. The ground pork had no flavor at all. The broth was a bit too watery. Great broths are full of flavor and a little thicker. The egg was ok, but it could also have more flavor. We would say from our many experiences eatting ramen bowls in the states & in Japan, just a little more flavor & a bit thicker broth and you will steal the Ramen lovers from everywhere else in the greater area. Taste the broth at Fakumi ramen!!!! All the foods that were being served to other people looked amazing. So we are definitely going back and can't wait to taste the other foods on the menu. We are definitely sold just on the tacos alone. In the atmosphere of the place was refreshing. And the people working there were wonderful. The food came out pretty quick because we got there right when they opened and more than half a place filled up and we were last to order. The place only seats a maximum of 38 people. So happy days and hours you might want to get there a little bit earlier to get a parking spot and a table. Because this place, if the rest of the food is like the tacos and and full of flavor, I guarantee it's...
