Sabor A Mexico đ˛đ˝ â Elk Grove, CA
We kicked things off with the Coctel de Camarones (Mexican Shrimp Cocktail)âserved chilled in a giant margarita-style glass rimmed with Tajin. It was packed with plump shrimp, diced cucumber, creamy avocado, and tons of flavor. It came with lime wedges and saltine crackers on the side. Like a refreshing cold soup, and we didnât need to add a thingâalready seasoned to perfection.
The Carne Asada street tacos were the highlight of the night! Juicy, well-seasoned meat topped with pickled red onions, fresh cilantro, and a vibrant thick verde sauce. The flavor combo was on point, and the presentation was beautiful. Each taco was served Ă la carte, and we couldnât get enough.
We also tried the Super nachos, which came with a generous scoop of fresh guacamoleâseriously, they didnât skimp. Lots of Carne Asada and flavorful beans.
To drink, I had a mango margarita rimmed with TajĂn and swirled with Chamoy. It was sweet, tangy, and so good I finished it fast. The DD hubby ordered horchata and it was smooth and creamy, not overly sweet, and the cinnamon ensured it was really refreshing. I want to say that we tasted a hint of vanilla. Not sure.
Service was excellentâfriendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The restaurant was very clean, festive, and spacious, with both indoor and outdoor patio seating. Even the bathrooms were spotless. Thereâs also a full bar!
Pricing is mid-range: ⢠$20 for the shrimp cocktail ⢠$12 for the mango margarita ⢠$4 per taco ⢠Around $14 for the nachos
â Must-try: The street tacosâour favorite part of the meal. đ Located in Elk Grove. đŽ Would we go...
Read moreWe had a late lunch (3pm) at Sabor A Mexico today, in our continued quest for a decent Mexican restaurant in Elk Grove. I am giving Sabor four stars because of all the Mexican restaurants we've eaten, in "the Grove," this has been the best. The restaurant was clean, the service friendly and fast- but consider the time we were dining because I've heard they can get busy and a wait isn't unheard of for this somewhat small dining area. We started with Guacamole. The portion was a good size (though they use skimpy little bowls for their chips) and it was fine; in our opinion it needed seasoning- had a good amount that we ended up taking home, and the addition of garlic and a bit if salt improved the taste. My husband enjoyed the Chimichanga with shredded beef. I thought they could have been a bit more generous with the rice and beans on his plate. I forgot to take photos of the entrees. I had the Taco Salad, also with shredded beef, and found it passable, but not particularly pleasing to the eye. They could stand a little work on their presentation and the food temperature definitely could have been warmer. We will be going back again. Next time we'll order different items, and hope we're as satisfied as...
Read moreJust moved here from Texas and decided to start trying out some California Mexican food. The Chicken chimichanga was beautiful and delicious! Fish tacos were meh...They use fish that tasted like a fish stick. They need to fry or grill some fresh filets for the tacos! Come on guys I can make a fish stick taco at home! Chips were good but not made fresh in-house. Rice was typical Mexican rice served at every grade C restaurant in America...Come on guys make some fresh homemade Mexican rice thatâs your own recipe!!....Refried beans were good. Salsa tasted homemade but was served cold. In Texas all the packed Mexican restaurants serve salsa warm but I guess I could have asked them to heat it. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful...EXCELLENT SERVICE!!.....I will return but wonât get the fish tacos again. Sorry guys but your fish tacos knocked you back to 3...
