First of all, this WAS one of the best places around Elkhart Lake. I returned home from several months overseas and I wanted my first meal back to be Lake Street. We arrived towards the end of the night, and figured a little over an hour would enough time for us to eat, since we all knew exactly what we were getting, and service had always been very fast. After being seated for 15 minutes, our waitress comes over. Mind you, there are only five other tables with customers at this point, and several of the wait staff wandering around. We explain exactly how we're splitting the checks, and she takes our drink orders and walks away, returning almost 10 minutes later with the drinks. She sets them down and says she'll be right back to take our food orders. After five minutes of standing at the end of the bar staring into space, she comes back and we give her our appetizer and meal orders. Another 20 minutes goes by and our appetizers arrive. The one saving grace of the night was that our seared tuna appetizer was excellent. Speaking with the rest of our party (all of which have shared my passion for Lake Street's food), the soup and mussels were acceptable, and the brussel sprouts were horrible. It was more brussel sprout jerky than anything. They were inedible, so we asked for them to be re-made. The waitress gave us a snide remark about "Well, I didn't make them" and walks off. The second batch came out relatively quickly and was better than the first, but still nowhere near as good as it should have been. After another 30 minutes, our entrees came out (by now, we're the only people still at the tables). I have ordered the 10oz Shiraz at least a dozen times, so I'm very familiar with it. Without writing anything in the menu, they changed the asparagus side to a wine-broccoli side with the potatoes, unfortunate but understandable; sides change. The potatoes were dry and had none of the usual seasoning on them. The broccoli tasted like it had been boiled in wine, then put on the plate; the waitress should have carded me before I ate it. Then I turned my attention to the steak. Something had felt off about it when it was set down, and now I realize what it is. There is no Shiraz sauce...The part that makes the steak worth it, the namesake of the entree wasn't there. Since our waitress had once again disappeared, we asked one of the nearby staff about it, and the only answer we got was "that's how it's served". The meat and cheese were still enjoyable, but it was not THE Shiraz tenderloin. The sauce is what MAKES the dish, and the steak I received was worth half of what I payed for it. The rest of my party had similar results with their dishes: under-cooked pork, bland pasta and sauce, tasteless burgers, and fries coated with half a pound of salt. One of the dishes actually sent a member of our party to the bathroom to be sick. One person in our group ordered some soft-serve ice cream to end the meal. When it arrived 10 minutes later, there were chunks of this foul looking substance that members of my group (experienced with soft-serve ice cream machines in their own work place) identified as excessive build up in the ice cream machine due to weeks of improper or no cleaning. The waitress brought us our checks, then disappeared for another 10 minutes. Not one of the checks was correct. Appetizers were double charged on one check, all the drinks for the table were charged to another check exclusively, while that person's food was put on the third check. When the waitress returned, she took all the checks back and went to re-calculate them. After 15 minutes, she returns and they're finally correct. We paid what we had to and left as quickly as possible. It has never before taken much more than an hour for me to enjoy my food, pay, and leave; it took us two and a half hours. I hate giving bad reviews but unfortunately, nearly everything was a disappointment. This is NOT the Lake Street I remember, and I will not...

Make sure you have at least 1.5 hours to spare for lunch because it will take at least that long to get a salad and sandwich. 1 waitress...mind you for the entire place. The food was unimpressive and lacking to say the least. Descriptions of the food on the menu sound great but the dishes were not well composed, balanced, or executed properly. The roasted beets were not roasted and all you could taste was vinegar from the dressing. The quesadilla was not brown and crispy or gooey. The tortilla was dry and crumble and it fell apart when you tried to eat it. Avoid the Italian roast beef sandwich unless you want to be very disappointed. The only good thing we had was a pepsi. We waited an hour for 1 salad and 1 sandwich and didn't even finish 1/2 of it. Our waitress didn't seem to care or otherwise was way to busy to even think about caring. Go 20 steps away to Off the Rail, spend 1/2 as much, get great friendly service and awesome food. I will never go back...
