My wife and I were visiting Eklhart from Arkansas for a family event. Whenever we visit Elkhart, we stay at hotels within walking distance of Big City Pizza (BCP). This was the first time we had noticed the pizzeria, and we were anxious to try it as we love supporting "mom-and-pop" businesses. I formerly owned a New York-style pizzeria and have high standards for legitimate and respectable pie. BCP did not disappoint. Upon entering, we were greeted and welcomed by one of the owners, who was genuine and friendly. The business was 30 minutes from closing, and several parties came in to order simultaneously. Yet, the owner asked each of us if we were dining in or ordering to go—definitely a customer-focused business owner. As a former pizzeria owner, I asked her many questions about the ovens (she has the best, IMHO), process, and ingredients. From my experience, what she indicated she uses is definitely the best. As it was almost closing time and we were so close to our hotel, we ordered to go and waited for our order. The owner was friendly, visited us during her tasks, and had delightful conversations with us. She exuded pride for what she had her husband establish and maintain despite getting the keys to their property the same month that COVID hit. What a testament to their dedication, resolve, and resilience in maintaining a successful business in the face of that challenge. The pizza was perfect. The crust was delicious, with great texture and flavor. The sauce was tangy, with the perfect spice balance. The cheese was just the right amount to complement the crust, sauce, and toppings without being overpowering. We also got a chicken parmesan sandwich, which we highly recommend, with a generously sized baklava for dessert. We were pleasantly surprised by how affordable the prices were, how good the food was, and how generous the portions were. This place is a bit hidden, so we would have been here on previous visits had we noticed it. I will tell you, next time we are in the Heart City, we will return to...
Read moreIf you want the best pizza in town, least I say Michiana, look no further. Big City Pizza got you covered.
Although I missed taking a picture of the chicken bacon ranch large pizza I also ordered along with the amazing gyro, I have to tell you the pizza was fabulous! The crust was great and the toppings were amazing! I actually didn’t get to take a picture of the pizza because we ate it too quickly!
As for the gyro, the homemade taziki which was light and flavorful was great! I rate my gyros based on the sauce because that’s what makes or breaks it. Too many restaurants are using sour cream in the sauce instead of Greek yogurt which is the correct method and that’s what this place does!
The people there were wonderful. From the youth working behind the register to the owners running the house and kitchen, everyone was soo nice! The place was clean and everything was above and...
Read moreLocally Owned and so much better than the National Brands! Miranda is the owner and very involved as she answered the phone this evening and takes your order! The Pizza was amazing! Hot, fresh and full of flavor! This was my first time but promise it won’t be my last time.
BTW - This is how nice Miranda is….. I forgot my receipt. I called her and she emailed it to me right away. Then a couple minutes later, she followed up with a personal email to make sure I received the receipt she sent! That would never never happen at one of the big pizza stores.
This level of care and customer service just doesn’t happen now days but it did to me this evening with Big City Pizza and I felt the need to...
