I have eaten at this Shiki since it first opened over 20 years ago and it was always one of the best out of all the Shiki restaurants. It was also one of the best of the "fast food" type Japanese restaurants.
When Liep was running the restaurant it was always consistently good. He was there almost all the time to help maintain the quality. He had a nice personality and always enjoyed seeing him. Ever since he retired the restaurant has went downhill in EVERY single way. It's very sad and there's just no excuse for it. The older guy that runs the restaurant now and also his son have absolutely ZERO customer service skills. They are very unthankful, and rude. It's as if it's a hassle to them to serve you. They are EXTREMELY LOUD! On 2 separate occasions here recently when trying to dine inside they are either talking or on the phone and it's as if they're on a loud speaker. You can't even talk amongst yourselves at the table they're so loud. Extremely disrespectful and unpleasant. I can't fathom how anyone could be so ignorant to not know how to act in public as an adult.
I could overlook some of this nonsense if the food was good. I most likely wouldn't even be leaving this review if it was good. The food quality has went downhill so far. It's just not even edible at times. It's very sad. I had steak last night and it was so tough that I couldn't even chew it. This has been an ongoing issue for a while now. At times the Chicken would be that tough as well. If we had a different Japanese Restaurant in town I'm confident that this restaurant would have to close its doors.
If you want the best Japanese restaurant make a trip to Statesville and visit Liep's son's restaurant Katana. It's the best in the state and I've eaten at many. No reason Shiki couldn't be...
Read moreMy family was going to try this restaurant due to a recommendation. However, when my family member called they were a little indecisive regarding the food. Instead of being patient and helpful, and helping the customer with the menu and the choices, the man on the phone was rude and impatient. My family hung up feeling discouraged. I called back to speak with the manager, come to find out it was the man that was on the phone. I tried to speak with him about the issue he immediately talked over me and I asked him to please let me finish. It may have been a misunderstanding; however you need to be patient and listen to the views or complaints of your customers. I was talked over many times, unable to finish explaining the issue we had. Then he proceeded to hang up on me, instead of finishing the call. That right there proves he has a lack of customer service if he can't take complaints or handle issues were customers are unhappy. It was rude to hang up on me just because he didn't like that I stated he need to be more patient and have a better tone on the phone. I don't understand why it would have hurt to be more patient and help the customer with choices on the food, instead of rushing them and making them feel like their a wasting your time. It makes people uncomfortable. You are ultimately supposed to help your customer not making the feel like they are a waste...
