Mostly friendly locals, which means they’ve already reached their yearly tolerance for “So, how far is Bar Harbor from here?” One woman behind the counter had the energy of a cat forced into a bathtub—zero smiles, zero “please” or “thank you,” just pure summer tourist fatigue. Honestly, I can respect that.
When I pulled out a metal chair to sit down, no joke, the screeching sound could be heard in the next town over. My ears were ringing.
We sat at the “coffee counter with a view” of Walmart’s produce aisle. Prime real estate for people-watching. Today’s highlight? Banana Guy. His entire existence is dedicated to replenishing bananas at lightning speed. Bro was like the LeBron James of fruit stocking.
