Oriental Orchid — Restaurant in Ely

This little gem is proof that great things come in small packages. I was participating in the Lake Vermilion State Park BioBlitz, and staying in town. I was out all day with little food, so I was STARVING by the time the late evening came. I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein and an order of Pork Egg Rolls, and in under 15 minutes they were ready. Being so centrally located in town, it is a great place to pick up food to take back to wherever you're staying. Service was quick and friendly. Getting back to the room, I was very pleased with the order. The Lo Mein was a style I very much enjoy, with thinner egg noodles and a sweet, smoky sauce. Vegetables and meat were in generous portions and very fresh. The egg rolls were delicious, having that Vietnamese twist with rice noodles inside and the lighter, crispier rice wrapping. It was exactly what I needed to refuel after a long day of hiking! The prices were excellent for the quality, and I will most definitely call on this restaurant again when I am in town.

I recently bought food here and… It is PHENOMENAL. I’m a big fan of pho and have not had it much since I’ve moved to MN because you don’t see it often. Theirs is superb. I also had the wonton soup today (been sick and seriously needed good soup) and… I’ve never had wonton soup this good. They had little slices of chashu pork, I believe? Idk, I know that’s Japanese, but they had it in the wonton so with cabbage and carrots. So so good. I will be ordering here often!! Idk if there was a change in ownership over the past few years, but if you had their food before and were not impressed (my previous experience) they are TOP NOTCH. We also had the rangoons, sesame chicken, and spicy chicken w veggies. Everything was great....

This is a great little restaurant that caters in Ely. Most people get a take out as the place is small with only 4 seating tables. The food is delicious delicious delicious. Served hot. Cooked fresh.
