I was so excited to try out some authentic Cuban food especially being so close to home. Unfortunately, the food was not as impressive as I hoped for. While there, we had a Tampa Cuban, pernil combo with yuca con mojo, tostones, plátano maduro, rice with beans, and chicken pastelillos. Though the rice was so flavorful, it was very undercooked. The chicken in the pastelillos was very salty and the texture of the chicken was that of canned chicken. Was truly looking for that guisado chicken flavor that is typically infused in chicken pastelillos. The yuca con mojo’s texture was great but there was an odd brown color on it and lacked flavor. Not sure what was making it brown as I have had yuca con mojo before and the color is usually yellowish. When it comes to the Tampa Cubano I was really expecting them to knock it our of the park given that Cuban sandwiches are a staple that Cubans are known for here in the states. However, for $15 the sandwich had more bread and very little meat and did not give off the wow factor I was expecting. I understand that food is expensive due to inflation, but because of this very same reason, we should be getting the sandwich that we typically would have paid much less for at the hijacked price. The two things I will say I really enjoyed were the pernil and the tostones. The pernil was super flavorful and delicious and the tostones were fresh and had a nice thickness that I appreciate (not chip like). Though my experience was not the best, I would like to give them another opportunity especially with the flavor of the rice, which I’d like to try again and hope it’s fully cooked the next time. I’d also like to have s better experience with the person taking our order as they were unfamiliar with menu and when we asked for our drink they had no idea what I was asking for and said they didn’t have it and come to find out, they...
Read moreA Taste of Home That Brought Tears to My Eyes: Cubano King is an Elyria Treasure! Where do I even begin? My husband and I visited Cubano King in Elyria, and the experience wasn't just a meal; it was a profoundly moving journey back home through flavor. From the moment we stepped in, we felt welcomed, but it was the food and the incredible service that truly set this place apart. A special shout-out has to go to Alex, who was the epitome of sweet and attentive service. Alex kindly offered me a sample, and honestly, that first bite changed everything. Instantly, tears welled up in my eyes – not from sadness, but from pure, overwhelming nostalgia and joy. The flavors were identical to the cherished cooking of my dear mother (R.I.P.). To find food prepared with such authenticity and love that it can evoke such powerful, beautiful memories is incredibly rare and speaks volumes about the heart and soul Cubano King puts into every dish. It tasted like home. Beyond that incredibly personal connection, every single aspect of our visit was absolutely A1. The authentic drinks were refreshing and the main courses were bursting with flavor, and the serving sizes were generous, ensuring we left fully satisfied. Even the desserts were a perfect sweet conclusion to an already stellar meal. My husband and I left with full bellies and even fuller hearts. We will definitely be coming back, again and again. If you are in Elyria or anywhere nearby and crave authentic Cuban food made with passion, look no further. Cubano King is the real deal, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! It's more than just a restaurant; it's a...
Read moreExcellent food, but poor customer service. I ordered drive through. When I opened the bag all of the green sauces were upside down and had poured all over the bag, even though it was double bagged. It leaked onto my leather gloves, my glasses, my shorts, and all over my car cupholder. In addition, the black beans were so hot that the styrofoam container and plastic lid had melted together at the side and were leaking beans. When I called the manager and told her what had happened she responded - “So, what do you want me to do about it.” Then she proceeded to tell me that I had done it and not the restaurant. lol. I rarely give bad reviews, I know this was probably an accident. But it really messed up my car and my things. And I felt like the response I got from the restaurant was reluctant and reticent. She finally told me to “come back tomorrow and she could make me a sandwich or something.” I know restaurant work is stressful, but time to buy better containers for your sauces please. And please don’t heat the beans up so much that they melt the styrofoam container they...
