Ott House — Restaurant in Emmitsburg

First, over the past two years, the country has had a rough time with the covid. We look forward to going out again. Unfortunately, when my daughter and I went out, we pick the wrong restaurant. At the door. sign had -- Seat Yourself -- They were not busy. Employees in the restaurant didn't seem to care if customers were there or not. We waited about 15 minutes. Finally a middle age lady, short with glasses came. Took our order. After getting the drinks and food, we never saw her again. Not very friendly. No one came to check on us or see if we need refill on drinks. Finally an employee walk by the table ( going to another table )and stop turn and yell across the room, are you okay. We just answered, yes. She had a pink shirt on and straight blonde hair. We were trying to find our waitress, so we could pay and get out of there. The blonde hair employee really thought yelling across the room was waiting on us. She thought she didn't do anything wrong and even laughed and thought it was funny. We couldn't get any service. Even today I still get upset the way we were treated. The service ( what service ?) was very poor and the food was, too. We got Hot Roast Beef Sandwich with mash potatoes. The potatoes taste like made from a box. The gravy or roast beef had a bad taste to them. Since we were upset about the service, we didn't bother to say anything about the food. Well never go there again!! Please save your money and pick another restaurant. To get better service and better food, you would be better off going to the drive thur at McDonalds and get a hamburger. I wish I could of give (...

This is one of our favorite places to eat, but we had a very bad experience about two months ago that I'm still thinking about every time I want to go back there. We had a waitress we've never had before (and honestly I hope she is not still there). She did not say hi, did not smile, did not say a single thing really. Just acted cold and annoyed. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt, like maybe they're having a bad day or something, but I could tell this was just her personality and she should not be working with the public. It was clear we were there for a birthday and she didn't even say happy birthday or try to make it a special night. All I can do is hope she's no longer working there because the customers don't deserve to be treated like that. Some families save up to go out to a nice dinner and someone like her goes and ruins it.

I am one of those people who tips generously, but I had to get up and go outside and leave my father-in-law to deal with the tip because for the first time in my life I wanted to leave the waitress nothing.

The food was great as usual, but for everyone's sake I hope that girl...

Atmosphere - 5 stars This is the standard that any pub should try to live up to. Plenty of local community decorations on the walls (especially from the fire department). The bar isn't noisy or rowdy at all. So much in fact that I would call this place kid friendly. I would call this place more of a restaurant with a bar inside than a bar that has an attached restaurant. We had Katie as our server and she did great!

Food - 4 stars Decent pub food, but the prices are great. I got the roast beef sandwich with fries and gravy on everything and it was good! We also had the crab dip and the flavor was excellent.

Service - 3 stars We sat down and waited about 20 minutes for our appetizer, not too bad but it was noticable. Then it was another wait for the entrees to come out, but it was a busy night so I understood. Then when the entrees did come out, the person I was with didn't get their side of fries. Too many little things added up and it dampened the experience a little.

All in all, I'll give it another shot on a weekend but I'd be worried about stopping in for a...
