My girlfriend and myself stopped by on our way through on a whim. I ordered a personal pizza, my girlfriend ordered the small cheese steak. Our total was only 14 dollars and some change. Such a good price, especially during this inflation where mom and pop shops have adjust.
When we first entered, we were hit with that recognizable Italian-American aroma, probably my favorite. The woman that was taking orders was very friendly and greeted us once we entered the door. We placed our order and proceeded to wait. We sat in an old school styled bench, surrounded by the sounds of employees calling out orders to each other. You can tell that the employees actually care about their work.
The pizza and cheese steak came, we took the order into our car for the ride home. The pizza slice was handed to me while I was driving, with a napkin carressed around the slice. I was pleasantly surprised that the napkin was not drenched with oil. The cheese on the pizza was nice and thick (not a negative) and the sauce complimented the bite. I was extremely satisfied with the 7 dollar pizza that I bought.
My girlfriend ordered the small cheese steak. The "small" is generous enough for two meals If you can resist yourself from eating the second half. The steak was chopped pretty finely, which renders a great bite without pulling meat.
When I ordered the steak and cheese while my girlfriend wasnt at the counter, I asked for everything except for "hots". Unbeknownst to my girlfriend, that includes mushrooms. She hates mushrooms, which is her own fault. I personally took a bite of the mushrooms laced cheese steak and it was amazing.
Long story short, amazing place. Friendly staff, very affordable prices and great quality.
Also, to the moron who rated this place low because there wasn't enough...
Read moreStopped at Carleo's after visiting the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine. We had nine people and I must say, this was not the place to go for that size a group! The restaurant is primarily carry out, and it's good a decent carry out place, but a terrible dine in place if you have over four people. When you walk in, they have a bench, and a long counter in the left. On the right they have three small booths that sit four people each, behind that they have a table that can only sit one because it's blocked in two sides and too close to a both in the other, that one person will be in the walkway. Next to that they have two for people booths bolted together to make an eight person booth. As I indicated, the booths are very small, so four or eight people don't fit if you order a whole pizza. It works for individual orders When we arrived, someone was at the eight person booth, so we split between two booths and then moved when they left. Using the eight person booth and the table. We ordered two pizzas, they were pretty good. The bread was a little hard for my taste (I prefer floppy thin, this want crispy thin, but stiff), but the sauce and cheese were good. The biggest issue, other than space, was the delay between the two pizzas. We had finished the first before the second arrived. I would've expected them closet together. Inexplicably, the second outside came in a box. But it ended up working out since well, as there is no way we could have fit two pizzas on that table. Overall, I can only speak for the pizza, if give that 3.5 stars, as the dough wasn't up to par. I choose three due to the delay. I didn't take off for the dine in experience since this is primarily a carryout that has some tables thrown in...
Read moreThis is one of the nicest family restaurants I’ve been to in awhile. It is small, only a few tables, but they have a booming pizza and takeout business. We ate in. Their homemade meatlover’s lasagna was awesome. Tasty sauce. Plenty of melted cheese. Lots of meat! Baked perfectly and still bubbling when it was brought to the table. And the meal included a salad! The portion was wonderfully large. Think of a full sized pie tin on a large dinner plate. Talk about value! I had half for dinner and half for today’s lunch. Also, the little loaf of Italian bread was superb. The staff is very friendly and multitasking continually, but not so busy that they won’t check on you regarding how the food is or if you need your drink topped off. In any case, if you’re in Emmitsburg, this is a definite stop. If I’m back this way I will be definitely be stopping back. Now time to catch my...
