Tried this place on a whim after reading reviews and was pleased.
El Lorito means little parrot in Spanish and the décor is wild. Unashamedly proud of their place. Very different than you'd see at many other places. Nothing wrong with that, at all. Complements to them for, being who they want to be.
Salsa is an important litmus test for me. The salsa was better than average. Had some flavor, e.g. wasn't tomato sauce you find at many places. The hot salsa was like many others:. full of heat and low on flavor. I find that mixing hot salsa and regular salsas produces a better blend of flavor and heat.
The chips: El Lorito serves the thick corn chips. Sturdy and able to handle any amount of salsa you care to throw at it.
We had tacos al pastor and enchiladas suiza. The tacos had great flavor. A little sweetness from the corner tortillas and onions, a bit of sharpness from the onions, blended with cilantro finishing with a hint of salty and spice from the meat. Well done and enjoyable.
Would go again continue to explore the menu, not because we didn't enjoy what we had but, to simply find other...
Read moreFirst off, besides the fact that the service was terrible. The waitress didn't come to our table hardly at all, barely spoke to us and we waited 10 minutes standing on the register to pay. The food wasn't prepared well and the person I was eating with had hard bits in their rice.
The issue that really upsets me though, is that I ordered off the vegetarian menu. I take a nice chunk of responsibility for this issue because I should know by now to always double check. But, it was labeled a vegetarian dish and so I went all in. I ate, got to work and now I am very ill. I am one of those people who is effected when they eat something with meat in it. I assume there was chicken stock in my sides.
As a restaurant I expect you to know basics such as the fact that a vegetarian doesn't eat animal products.
I also wouldn't have minded that much if when I spoke to someone about it, they acted like they cared. They didn't. Even after me telling them I was ill.
I should have known they wouldn't, they certainly didn't care about us when we were in there...
Read moreThis is my fiancé's and my favorite restaurant in Emporia. Price wise, all the prices are pretty fair. Most of the time that we go, the service is excellent and very fast. That being said, there have been one or two times when it hasn't been all that great but we don't let that affect our opinion of the restaurant.
My fiancé and I are extremely picky eaters too so we normally order the same thing every time we go which is fairly often. Again, most of the time the food is wonderful and I can't think of a better place to eat. But there have been times when it just doesn't live up to my expectations. This doesn't happen often so it doesn't bother us. The servers are very friendly as well and we are always so happy to be able to come here.
As much as I would love to give it a five star, I can't just because I know that not everyone has the same taste, expectations, and experiences as I have. That being said, I still find it to be one of the best restaurants in Emporia and my...
