Great local eatery for seafood with an amazing beach side vibe and laid back decor.
Food: 5/5 seafood known for their great fresh catch, fun selection of cold drinks, and oysters. This eatery is amazing. It’s a local shop in the Encinitas area off of the 101 highway. They offer fresh oysters for only a dollar apiece during their happy hour. They have a decent selection and it is first come first serve. They shuck the oysters and leave it on an ice cold platter with homemade sauces and fresh lemon. The oysters are sweet and succulent and you can get as many as you like while they last. There is also an amazing selection fresh fish. The fish is cooked several different ways. The fish tacos are another solid staple that is a winner here. The fish is also locally caught so it’s very fresh...the way seafood should be prepared. They also offer a few sandwiches that are wonderfully seasoned and always hot and ready.
Service and seating: 5/5 The service is great. Everyone is super friendly and willing to help. It makes the dining experience extremely enjoyable. The restaurant itself is a bit small so if you plan on dining here then arrive early so you can find a table on the inside or in the back patio area. They also have some seating in front of the restaurant. This is a very popular eatery therefore there’s always people arriving and filling up seats. Parking can also be a bit of a challenge. There is only parking in front of the restaurant and down a little ways. There is dirt parking across the street near the railroad tracks. Be mindful when you cross the street.
Overall this is a great beachside eatery that is fun and family friendly. The fresh seafood is top notch and the service is inviting and friendly. Make sure you stop by this eatery if you are along the beautiful coastline. You will definitely...
Read moreI only rated the food one star because of the service I received. I honestly didn’t even eat my sea food curry, which had a high recommendation from a client. Nino? not only was rude, condescending, and borderline misogynistic. It forever ruined my anticipation and excitement to try this restaurant. He not only made me feel incredibly uncomfortable his cold approach was unnecessary and confusing. I understand if someone was having an off day, but this behavior was beyond “waking up on the wrong side of the bed.” Being very much involved in the north county community, I cannot express the disappointment of this interaction. Regardless if the other staff’s customer service is amazing, this man has tarnished the name of Fish101. Being a local of Encinitas, my usual conversation with clients is about fun, local spots to visit. As well as my involvement with NextDoor. It was a recommendation of a recent client, she advised the atmosphere was hit or miss, but the food was great. After my interaction with Nino, I will inform future recommendations to avoid both locations. This review will go unnoticed as anticipated. It more likely won’t change future interactions with this man. In light of the situation, I hope he sees this, and I hope that this review will reflect on his demeanor and give him sight that he cannot treat people so poorly. Especially those who do have an influence on locals and where recommendations and reviews matter. North county is too small of a location, where continued behavior will only start to affect the...
Read moreMy recent visit to Fish 101-Leucadia was my second dining experience at this establishment, and unfortunately, it left a little to be desired. Nestled in a small shop with ample outdoor seating, the restaurant offers convenience, but fails to deliver on flavor and execution.
Upon arrival, the availability of parking across the street in a dirt lot was appreciated. The customer service, while adequate, lacked the personal touch expected from a dining establishment. An oversight in my order, where guacamole was omitted from my burrito despite being paid for, set the tone for a disappointing meal.
The chips and salsa, while fresh, fell short of expectations. The salsa lacked the depth of flavor and heat typically associated with traditional salsa, consisting primarily of diced tomatoes and onions.
Moving on to the main courses, the shrimp tacos and shrimp burrito failed to impress. The shrimp tacos were dominated by cabbage with minimal sauce and overcooked shrimp, resulting in a lackluster flavor profile and tough texture. Similarly, the shrimp burrito, despite a well-toasted tortilla, suffered from bland beans and rice and overcooked shrimp lacking in seasoning.
While the addition of extra chipotle sauce helped salvage some flavor in the burrito, it was not enough to redeem the overall dining experience. Ultimately, Fish 101-Leucadia fell short of expectations, failing to deliver on both flavor and execution. With numerous other fish establishments offering superior flavors and better-cooked seafood, I am...
