Every time someone leaves The Shanty without paying their bill, the bar is defunded by an amount equal to the total of the check, less any add-ons or pre-payments. While this doesn't seem like a big deal, it can add up exponentially. Just look at what they're doing at the drug store and the various five and dimes. Have you noticed toiletries and other hygiene items that are locked up behind plexiglass? I'm sure you must have, perhaps last week or during the warm summer months. They did that because the homeless and some other very unscrupulous and unsavory folks are taking liberties with the merchandise and removing it from the store without making a payment on the goods. That's a problem. It seems that nobody is immune from the effects of inventory creep, not to mention the homeless are having a hard enough time finding suitable accommodations, and now someone is trying to press charges for pilfering some soap and ear drops. Maybe if they could reason with the perpetrators, they wouldn't have to resort to these underhanded tactics. Just a...
Read moreGenuinely had a wonderful experience for 2 hours before it turned 1:00 am, a whole hour before they close. Not only did they ring a loud bell for last call at 1:15 am when they close at 2 am, they started walking around at 1:30 am saying “we are not doing this” as we were civily finishing our drinks and waiting for one friend to close out his tab. We were forced out of the bar 30 minutes early to wait for our Uber in the cold. One of the workers continued to pester us about being “too loud” despite the same bar still blasting music that was much louder than we were, checking in every few minutes about how far our Uber was even though we were standing on a public sidewalk. I have closed out bars in Utah that never got remotely this hostile. Absolutely ridiculous behavior on behalf...
Read moreThe Shanty is the best bar in North County San Diego. Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel like you’re part of the family. Really cool dive bar (with 2 pool tables) on the inside…and beautiful huge garden area (with fire tables) on the outside that has gorgeous views of the ocean and sunsets. The rotating food pop-ups have been amazing, everything from korean fried chicken to artisanal tacos to burgers from a place that bakes their own buns, smokes their own bacon, and even makes their mayo from scratch. The Shanty is the perfect local neighborhood bar that’s the centerpiece of the community but is also a warm and inviting place for out-of-towners to...
