A friend recommended Cochino Taco. So, why not?
When you enter the restaurant, the hostess stand is just inside the door. It's a small area, with no chairs to sit and wait, a bit of a bummer, as you will probably have to wait.
The interior is divided into three separate areas: the bar area, a smaller seating area with a lower ceiling (to be described below), and the outdoor seating area.
The bar area, which I will include the kitchen in this area as well, has fun colorful tiles in earth tones (blues, browns), behind the kitchen counter. There are several community high top tables in this area. There is a television over the bar. The bar has seating too, so you can enjoy a drink and watch the television as well.
Another section, in which we enjoyed our meal, has a lower natural wood ceiling with outdoor type lights (you'll have to check it out), as well as pig lights. There are approximately 12 - 14 small tables in this area, with seating being very close together. I felt like we were sitting on a separate patio in this area, very nice.
There is an "L" shaped patio, which has enclosure side walls, that can be rolled up or down, depending upon the weather. I am not sure if there are heaters out in the area. I hope there are, as the Colorado weather can change like the drop of a hat.
There is exposed brick is some parts of the restaurant, and music is playing in the background, but it's difficult to hear, as the restaurant is loud. It will be difficult to hold a conversation with your party, but it can be done. The floor is wood laminate, which is easy to keep clean. There are plenty of windows to let in the wonderful Colorado sunshine.
The menu has plenty to choose from. My husband and I both had one of the Cotija Cheese Skirt tacos, which we both enjoyed. This is grilled cotija cheese, corn, guacamole, serrano salsa, cilantro, and toasted pepitas. I also had the Carne Asada taco, which I enjoyed. This is marinated skirt steak, avocado tomatillo, white onion, cotija, and cilantro. My husband had the Barbacoa taco, which is slow braised beef, chile seco crema, pickled red onion, and cilantro. He enjoyed this taco as well.
Dessert, well, we couldn't pass it up, and I was so glad we did not pass up dessert! We shared the Cochino Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich. Yummy butterscotch ice cream in between two cinnamon sugar crispy flour tortillas, topped with Mexican caramel and toasted almonds. WOW! Loved this, and easily shared between two people.
Service is very good, with table service. Your order is brought out to you. Parking is in their small but private parking lot, or you will have to park on the surrounding neighborhood streets.
All in all, very good. As I have stated, it is noisy inside, so it would be difficult to hold a work meeting here, but why not go after work for Happy Hour!
I can see Cochino Taco becoming a neighborhood gathering place for food, family, and friendship. The only thing that is wrong with Cochino Taco is that there isn't a location in downtown Denver, more specific, Capital Hill. Hey, Cochino Taco, what do you think about coming...
Read moreDO NOT COME HERE* Went here for lunch today and although initial reaction seems good as I was greeted and informed I could sit a the bar (opened seating) it went down hill from there. The bartender was no where to be found which was ok as someone else helped me but when he got back, he didn’t greet me once. After sitting there for a couple of mins even being literally the only one at the bar on a slow day for lunch I had to contact him. His demeanor came off as he wasn’t to Enthusiastic to help me nor went outside of any details about the menu for the food besides very blandly answering my questions. Once that small awkward conversation was over and he either still around or was on his cell phone at the end of the bar again with no communication. I’m not looking for a friend but making me feel welcome would’ve been nice. I don’t think my entire life I have ever not left a tip but in this case I literally didn’t leave him one penny as even when we wrap up the bill he still came off as he was almost angry he had to help me. To make things worse, my order was to go, got home and the food is over priced and average at best. We got servers things as it was for me and my family and here’s our opinion: 2-Ground beef tacos= $8.00 and taco bells tacos are even better. Barbacoa tacos= dry and no taste Shrimp tacos= average at best Al Pastor(pork) Tacos= Zero Taste
Ran into a food truck the other day selling street tacos that were half the price and out of this world, I would go back to this restaurant if the food was free and I travel for a living. For the high price and lack of customer service I would give this...
Read moreI actually wanted to give this place more than just one star so I decided to give it three stars for atmosphere because it is in a convenient place but the service seems to be subpar if you're not from around that area is the best I can say that. My daughter and I dined here because it was close to the hospital down the street. The menu seemed pretty repetitive and I decided to go with "an order of a side of tacos" to which I was told it was a single taco @ $4.95. I proceeded to ask if it was sizable since it was one taco for $5 and was told very nonchalantly "yea" where I will add it was kind of uncomfortable like I shouldn't be asking that... I ordered 2, one for each of us because this was a quick bite and I got it with an appetizer. When we received our food it was two very average size a side of tacos which are pretty small everywhere you go but in cases where they're served like the above stated they are larger. On top of all this this is nowhere near authentic Mexican food or tacos. Asada tacos do not have green sauce on them and their green sauce was like no other I've ever tasted in my life. The staff was rude in misleading and the food was not even close to appetizing. Your drinks also come in a bottle so this establishment is really trying to squeeze every dollar for as little as they can...
