WORST SMALL BUSINESS EXPERIENCE EVER! Visiting a small town for the long Memorial Day weekend, with the pure intention of supporting small businesses. Tried to go on 5/26/23, but they were closed. Called to make sure they'd be open on 5/27/23, they said they would, so we went back. Showed up at 11:30am and the open sign was off, so we weren't sure since they open at 11am. We went in and they were open with one table of military men eating. We were super excited because of all the positive reviews, but that went downhill quickly. I was going to buy a chicken plate, but was told they only came with "quarter legs". So I decided I'd just buy a whole chicken (I'm not a leg quarter fan), then I was told that a whole chicken was simply four "quarter legs". What?!?! I was about over it, but still wanted to give them a try. We were then told that the ribs nor chicken was ready yet. I asked how long it would be, and we were told she didn't know because "he" went to the store to get bread, but would be right back. We waited about 20 minutes, and then decided to go run an errand and come back. We were encouraged to go ahead and pay, then come back and pick it up, but still could not be told a timeframe. I'd never pay for food then come back later for an individual order, especially when things already felt off. We were told to call back in 30-45 minutes, but not to wait too long because people start picking up orders quick, and they couldn't hold our food. We never asked for a hold, and it almost felt like manipulation to create a thought that they'd be sold out. We decided to leave to run the errand, and an employee ran outside and told us they only took cash "because the card machine is down", and "don't take too long"... again. I'd decided if we had to go through all of that, I'd go ahead and buy a plate and a whole chicken, though it wasn't really a whole chicken, and have enough to share. The menu had both priced at $10, so I'd leave $20 with this small business. My friend called a while later like we were told, and she was informed that the plates were $15. I was confused, so I called back myself. The gentleman told me plates were $15. I told him that we'd just left and the menu said $10. He simply told me they were now $15 and he hadn't changed it on the menu. I felt some kind of way about this, and it felt kind of scammish, like the price was hiked for Memorial Day weekend. There were no signs in the restaurant notating the price change, and the woman I aide never mentioned this. Sooooo between not having items ready, not being the correct price, not having the card machine operational, not having a timeframe when things WOULD be ready, a "whole chicken" being 4 leg quarters, being encouraged to pay and come back, and being told at least four times not to take too long to come back, there's no way I could support this business... as much as I wanted to. I never tasted the food, but I can't, in good conscience, give a positive review. Absolutely...
Read moreBefore I start the tale of my overall experience let me preface by stating I do not give this review without great thought and consideration. As my party entered the restaurant at around 11:20 am we were greeted and told that they were not serving yet but would start soon. The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. and had the open sign clearly lit. Once seated the party of 4 had to share 2 menus of little food selection and lots of price. While looking over what little selection was there it was hard to talk or read the menu due to the overly loud TV talk show the cashier was watching. Before ordering we were informed that the debit card machine was broke and were only accepting cash and that they did not have everything available on the menu. One person ended up having to pay for everyone because of this factor. Once the food arrived on flimsy Styrofoam plates that your cheap uncle uses at his back yard BBQ. It was also noticeable how the food looked like it came from the same cheap uncle. The rice looked as if it was still surrounded by the water from the rice patty from which it was grown. The backed beans looked as if they were fresh from the can. The meat itself looked decent like your grill master uncle tried his best. In saying all that now I can get to why this experience has prompted me to write this review. First, as a business owner who is not prepared to serve a full menu 20 minutes after opening? Second, on the table was an article about the restaurant praising it for its atmosphere and its ribs. The ribs were one of the items not available. If you are known for your ribs it would only make sense that you would always have them available especially for someone who has never eaten at your establishment. Third, if you are going to have a business model based on simple menu simple and simple plates then take the time and money saved and make the food tasty and appealing to the eye. And last, if your debit card machine doesn't work please inform the customer with a sign on the door or as they walk in not when they seat down. A lot of work needs to be done here and then maybe it will be a praise worth...
Read moreDon't understand the reviews that are 1 star. This is by far the best place I have ever ate when it comes to bar-b-que. Yes you have to get your own drink and yes they may not have what's on the menu at the time. You have to take into consideration that food is expensive especially when its wasted. The owners have been there for a long time, they can predict what sells on what days. You wouldn't cook supper at home if your family wasn't going to eat it just to throw it away. Big Daddy is awesome. The entire time we were there, he talked with us. He genuinely cared that we were his guest. The guy he has helping him in the kitchen is awesome also. He came out and gave us our food and was extremely polite and made sure we were satisfied. The atmosphere in there did not feel like I was at a restaurant but like I was invited to eat at someone's house which to me makes it great. Big Daddy has been through alot in the past few years and it's a blessing he is still with us much less a blessing he is still working and serving people. Awesome person at heart. The food was excellent. You can't get ribs or bbq like that anywhere here. There aren't enough stars to give to this establishment!!! The food was not "cotton mouth" dry either. As far as the dirty establishment reviews, I can't say I have ever eaten here and it's been dirty. The guy in the kitchen was cleaning the entire time we were there which was over an hr due to everyone in our party talking to Big Daddy. The table and floor was clean and the...
