Nemo's Drive Thru — Restaurant in Escalante

Waited a very long time, but we were happy to since the gas station clerk spoke so highly of this place. My families food was good. Mine however was not. Made a grilled cheese no Mayo instead of grilled chicken no Mayo. Then dropped my chicken on the counter, picked it up, and handed it to me. I asked for another because I don’t know if the counter is clean and he said it is cleaned often…I just left. I didn’t eat it. Which is sad because it looked good. Heads up… if you value food safety stay away. Any restaurant worker should know basic bare hand contact regulations as well as non food surface regulations. Owners, I know they are young but it’s super important they keep people safe from harmful bacteria, viruses, and other things that can invade our food when not properly prepared or served.

Edited to note that this business attacks the character of patrons that leave honest reviews. Your employee, the young man with long hair asked if it was ok to put it back on the bun for me after the chicken fell onto the counter. I said “no, I really don’t know what’s on your counter”. He replied with “we clean it often”. Instead of arguing with him I said that’s fine put it on the bun it’s ok. I didn’t storm off or throw a fit. I actually said it’s fine and have a good day. Again, this kid is less at fault than the folks who are responsible for teaching proper food handling. Food safety 101! I’m not going to wait another 20 mins to have my food remade again after an employee asked me if it was ok after my wet chicken fell onto the counter. He offered me something for free and I politely declined….mostly because I just didn’t want to stand there any longer but also because I didn’t want to risk my food being handled...

Nemo’s is located on the north side of Highway 12 right in the downtown section of Escalante and has the look and feel of the classic small-town burger and shake joint that everybody is looking for. During our stay in Escalante we noticed that it had a steady stream of customers especially in the evenings. We stopped by for lunch and, due to the size of our group, ended up ordering a pretty sampling of their menu. The menu was everything that you would expect to find from such a place: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, corndogs, French fries, English chips, soft drinks, root beer floats, and a few different offerings of shakes (although nowhere near the variety we thought, or hoped, it might have). Please note, to put things in perspective, that this review is being written while still in under COVID-19 restrictions. The seating was all outside, but there was plenty of it. They offered both walk-up and drive-thru. While waiting, they had a few different local clippings to read, including the legend of the man, Nemo (I won’t tell you here – you should go and read it yourself!) As a note, you can also buy a Nemo’s branded zip up hoodie. The food was good – but nothing that left me begging for more. I would surely go back again. I think that the lasting impression we had was the less than friendly service offered to us by the young lady who served us. I would still say that it is one of the best restaurants...
