Let’s face it, Escondido is not the brunch capital of the world. There are limited options, most of which are standard diner (aka ‘old American’) cuisine. Enter A Delight of France, a busy order at the counter place serving French breakfasts and house-made pastries and absolutely perfect coffee.

Did I make sure the coffee was perfect! You serve it yourself in there coffee area, and if your dining in you get is much as you want. It was perfect! Absolutely as strong as it should be and hot. I often don't have high hope's about the coffee at breakfast places which often comes out as browned water… But I could sit all day every day and drink this coffee. You should go here for the coffee alone.

OK, once I got over my love affair with the coffee, it turned out the food was pretty good as well. I had a large house made croissant (err, not that you can get a “small” one…they’re just pretty darned big!) served with butter and a house made strawberry berry jam served in a syrup dispenser. It was all around yummy. I thought it first that it was on they serve better with a cross on it since 90% of a croissant is already better, but the additional better just made it even more sinfully good. The experience of serving jam out of a syrup dispenser was also unique. Love the croissant.

I also had the “French Scramble” breakfast served with herbed potatoes and scrambled with shallots. Both the potatoes and the eggs had a lot more flavor than you would normally expect in these items. They don't skimp on the herbs. The potatoes were perfectly cooked crispy on the outside and tender on the inside… The eggs might have been a little overcooked.

The dish was served with a a bit of a sad looking fruit cup which included not so fresh looking melon and maybe a pineapple piece. I later saw other, better looking fruit cups with banana strawberry and blueberries being delivered with meals to other tables so I guess it is the luck of the draw.

They brought me a generous amount of food, and I couldn't finish it all. It wasn't too expensive and all-around a very satisfying and tasty meal. When in Escondido, this is a no-brainer place to head to, especially considering the lack of other options in the town, and the super super super...

Unfortunately after my second time visiting this place, I’ve decided I will absolutely never dine here again. I ordered delivery a couple months back and the food was delicious and arrived timely. Today however, my fiancé and I ordered pickup online at 10:41, we arrived at 11 when online estimated our food to be ready. Unfortunately there was no pickup line so we waited ten or so minutes to pick up the food. Upon arriving at the front we were met with confusion and told that their system was not working and to wait ten or so minutes. We waited for ten minutes, no food. We waited for twenty minutes, no food. After about a half and hour I decided to purchase a pastry, the owner (or what seemed like it, same one who let us know their system was down) met my fiancé and swiped our card. After about 45 minutes of waiting I stopped an employee to ask about eta, she informed me our last item was on the press and would be out shortly. 5 or so minutes later the same employee brought our bag over, as we got up to leave I checked the bag (after other reviews said items of theirs were missing) and sure enough an entire second half (my fiancés ENTIRE meal) was completely missing. By the time we finally got all of our food it was almost an hour from arriving in the restaurant let alone ordering our food. The employee through in a free croissant as a thank you for being patient, but not once did the owner actually get up and apologize or say anything. The truth is too unfortunately, my fiancé and I also believed that their system was in fact not broken but that they had simply not been checking it as after ten or so minutes from arriving they confidently moved check out over to the screen next to the pick up screen. The food was good but definitely not worth $50+ and an hour or more wait. It also seems worth mentioning the inside also REAKED of propane and my fiancé and I by the end were, more hungry, nauseous, and had horrible headaches. Wish we had a better experience but unfortunately none of it was warranted to EVER go back again. Definitely not a relaxing environment and the wait time was ridiculous for a grilled cheese, ham croissant, crepe and...

I decided to try this place based on reviews. I was in town with my daughter visiting her brother who is in the Navy. We arrived about 1015am on a Sunday. The place was full inside and out. There is still confusion IMO about the process of getting a table.

There was a line of people in front of the menu board (ground) and we were standing in line behind the menu board. We seemed to be in the way there for the servers and it was uncomfortable standing near two tables of people trying to have their meals.

Also some guests seemed to just be occupying tables for a long time after they completed their meals. Which imo is just rude when you see a line of people waiting for a table. We ended up asking if we could grab the two top table that had just left (there was a single person at a four top - again, the restaurant staff should’ve handled that imo with a line of people waiting for a table. And she came in out of the line ahead of the menu board) They did bring out a third chair for us.

Service was slow. But that was fine, we weren’t really in that big of a hurry. But if you are in a hurry, you will probably be upset. By the time we got a table, ordered and ate, it was almost 2 hours for just the 3 of us.

You order and pay from your phone with the QR code assigned to your table.

My son surprised me with ordering an Orange Blossom mimosa for each of us. It was really good! I also had a white chocolate mocha that was perfect!

He and I both had a hard time choosing what we wanted, so many things sounded great. I settled on Croissant Bechamel. He had the Eggs Benedict, and my daughter had the kids Crepe.

ALL of it was so very delicious, and was the perfect amount of food. My son lives about 10 minutes away and he said he was definitely going to go back with his wife after she returns from her orders in Kuwait. I told her parents that live in California to definitely try it out when they are visiting the kids.

I will for sure go back when I’m in town visiting, next...

Wonderful staff, nice decor, good covid precautions, VERY hit and miss. My family and I have been meaning to try here for a while as it's very pretty. We ordered the berry crepes, eggs benedict, roast beef club, a cold brew coffee, and a Rose coffee. We tried to order using the QR code left on the table. My phone wouldn't register it, and my husband's tablet wouldn't let it add my order to my family's. It just stalled out. So I went up front to order just mine The berry crepe had lovely fresh fruit. My husband's and son's eggs benedict was adequate? Their potatoes were pretty obviously from a bag or some form of previously frozen. My husband said that the ham was thin, uniformly cut, and probably from a package. (He LOVES eggs benedict so he has high standards, esp when we have butchers here in Escondido). My sandwich was AWESOME. Thick avocado, great roast beef, just the right amount of bacon and a dash of mustard. My salad weirdly had a random raspberry in it? Like just one half crushed one that I sincerely doubt was supposed to be there. Also it wasn't from the crepes next to me bc those were covered in chocolate sauce. I'm just mildly concerned about cross-contamination if someone has an allergy? My husband's cold brew was great! The rose coffee? It tasted like drinking straight perfume. It was... overwhelming. I'd like to take this moment to really say how great the staff is though. They check by regular intervals and make sure to offer us all water the minute we sat down at a table. It was a really hot day. They kept appropriate distances and war masks and even were constantly changing out gloves. Also, when I mentioned how overpowering the coffee was they immediately tried to give it to me for free. Then they suggested replacing it with fresh squeezed orange juice. I'm glad I listened to them because the orange juice was delightful. The gents and ladies bathroom were both clean and it had a changing station. Maybe we just came in an off day?
