Burros & Fries - Escondido W Felicita Ave — Restaurant in Escondido

I am not familiar with this part of north county but I have driven by this place a few times recently and noticed it always seems to have a line in the drive thru. From the outside I believed it was a hamburger joint (which I am not interested in). I saw it said Fresh Mexican Grill on the sign so I decided to do a little research on the place and I'm glad I did. All I pretty much eat is Mexican food and the refried beans are super important to me because I do not care for red meat. Now to me this is not an authentic mexican food restaurant but the food I have tried here is pretty good. Way better than any Mexican fast food I have had in the past. The refried beans are very good! First we had the veggie fries but I traded the whole beans for refried beans. It comes with good guacamole, salsa fresca sour cream and of course fries and we both enjoyed them. We returned a few times and I had a bean and cheese burrito, cheese enchilada, chile relleno and I liked them all. My friend tried the fries with carne asada and said he wants to try the carne asada burrito next time. They have a good salsa bar too. I like the habanero salsa and carrots. He likes the salsa Verde. I'm happy to say they serve some good tasting Pepsi. I liked this place until I ordered 2 orders of flautas and both orders had mold on tortillas as well as the chicken. I brought them back and asked cashier what it looked like to her. All she said was I give you back your money and I asked to have manager call me she said Carlos won't be in till Monday and it was Thursday. I was very upset and drove off. I kept thinking about it so I call the restaurant and told them I was going to call health department because I felt they were serving that dish still until Carlos came in. Another gentleman called me 10 minutes later and said they pulled the chicken off the shelves and it wouldnt be served. But what does that say about what they are serving or the cleanliness of the kitchen that they are cooking in. I could never eat there again, but many of my friends & my husbands co workers have eaten there and are upset because they really liked the food but are concerned about the conditions of the restaurant. So consider this a warning that even your favorite restaurant that has always served good food can be mishandling your favorite dish and keep your eyes open. I love the food and their salsas. This is why I am so disappointed. I never like to complain but I have found hair in my food at least 4 times in the last 2 months. Today was the second time in 1 week and it was the last straw. After biting into my food, I pull out a piece of hair. I inspect the rest of my food and find another piece of hair. I have never been so disgusted in my life. I have complained numerous times and have never requested a refund. I just want clean food and nothing more. Each time I get the usual, we do apologize and will make it right. But nothing changes, it only gets worse. I spoke to my neighbor about this, he he laughed and told me he has experienced the same thing over and over again. It’s know throughout the neighborhood as the place with hair in their food. Each time I have request to speak to a manager, some how the manager is never there and refuses to return a phone call. Any complaints are trashed the second you walk out the door. Please make sure to inspect your food before you eat it. Somebody is going to get seriously sick.
