We were told this is a nice little place, so we thought we would try it. The employees are very friendly. They greet you as you walk in. Their breakfast was good. Crisp bacon, crisp hashbrowns, over medium eggs (they were actually over mediim). The biscuits and gravy was great that they put the sausage ground up in the gravy (not huge chunks of patties cut up). The gravy itself had a sweet taste to it. That was not to my liking. To each their own though. I am more of a cream and black pepper type myself. The pricing is a little on the high side, but this is the norm just about everywhere. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We will come back.
UPDATE: We thought we would stop in for some lunch (late 1:30). We seated ourselves, and a young gentleman took our beverage order. We sat there and were passed by several waitresses many times. One kept stepping out of the kitchen area several times and looking at us. After setting there for over 10 minutes, we got up to leave. As we were walking out we heard one of them say "have a nice day". We will never go back. If this is how they treat patrons, their future does not look good.
ANOTHER UPDATE:
The owner/Management response started out as if they were concerned. It shortly turned to anger. Our 1st review was good. The 2nd visit went to pot. As for our bad review being surrounded by good reviews is not surprising. It is called burying a bad review. To tell if this is true look at the pattern of reviews. A bad one will be followed by several great ones (all of the sudden). Hmm how did that happen ? It is not the customers job to demand service. Either you get it or not. We did not. Your final statement " we will do fine with or without your business". This shows your anger and lack of business ethics. It is obvious your employees follow your lead and attitude. When enough people get the same treatment we recieved, your business will be...
Read moreI have probably eaten here over 50 times. The location is in an area that used to be (still is?) the town square. There is a cute little park in the middle of the area. The restaurant is in the old Post Office, and you can see the old sign high on the wall above the entrance. The ceiling of the restaurant has the old style tin panels, which I am guessing come from the original post office.
Now for the food. I have tried probably 10 of the dishes. My favorite is the pan fried chicken, which is currently the special only on Mondays. Perfectly seasoned and comes with 3 sides. I can honestly only finish the chicken plus 2 sides, so that's all I get. Mashed potatoes with gravy are awesome. The kitchen selects only available locally grown veggies for their sides, so this will vary depending upon the season when you come. Homemade french fries. Home cooking at its finest. And very reasonable prices, especially in this time of artificial hyperinflation.
Excellent home cooked food, great prices, supports the local farmers, quiet location in historic part of a small Texas town. I...
Read moreMy wife and I visited for the first time today about 10:30am. I had searched Google for Best Breakfast near me. I had every intention of getting an omelet but when my wife ordered chicken fried steak my brain thought “meat”. The salad was great! Simple fresh salad with lettuce, cheese, tomato, and cucumbers. The ranch was on point. My wife got the mac & cheese as her side and it was just like her mom makes, perfect. The chicken fried steak was good, not sure how I feel about the gravy though, I think just regular white gravy would’ve been better. Something to fufu for me. It was a little busy at the time we visited which I assume is the reason it took a bit for my wife to get a refill on her sweet tea, which she said was really good sweet tea. My glass was less than half full being less than half way through my meal. I was never asked for a refill. This place is a great little find for us. We will be back, I hope to try breakfast next time....
