Shamed. Uncomfortable. Empowered. Amazed.
We were excited to try out this restaurant for the first time. We went early to beat the rush, we were one of two tables there at the time. The service wasn’t bad. I ordered waters for myself and my daughter, both of our drinks tasted off. My husband and I decided to only order appetizers.
SHAMED- While waiting for them to bring our order I nursed my son. I am a modest mother when it comes to nursing in public and used my cover 100% of the time.
After our server brought our food she mentioned she couldn’t believe I was being bad mouthed in the back for breastfeeding my son in the restaurant. I did not know how to respond. I just looked at her, shocked at the words coming out of her mouth. She went on saying she fought back saying back in the old days people breastfed before formula. I responded finally with the only thing I could think of. I stated I was doing nothing illegal, in fact there was a law passed recently making it legal to breastfeed anywhere I wish in all 50 states.
UNCOMFORTABLE- Our server then went back into the kitchen, at this point we were the only customers. Sitting there still in shock I looked at my husband. What just happened? I then heard the staff carrying on a loud conversation about me breastfeeding still! I could hear them, talking about me. I had already stopped breastfeeding, but still the whole crew were speaking their thoughts on it.
EMPOWERED- The longer I sat there the more upset I became. In reality it was probably less than ten minutes. I am a mother. I will nurture my children. I kept myself completely covered, by my own choice. I was not exposing myself. It is 2018. Breastfeeding is not a back in the day thing. Breastfeeding is not a circus show. I will not feel shamed for feeding my child. I will never again allow myself to feel uncomfortable for feeding my child.
You do not deserve my business. You do not deserve my respect.
We paid our bill and left.
AMAZED- Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. You are not entitled to SHAME others. In the future, mind your conversations. In the future, do not make a mother UNCOMFORTABLE for feeding her child by breastfeeding them. In the future I hope that you will not allow yourselves to disrespect your customers this way. In the future I hope you feel EMPOWERED by the level of behavior your business provides. In the future, I hope people are AMAZED by your positive comments and conversations.
I will never...
Read moreFood is top-tier delicious and believe me, you get bang for your buck... add some great people running the show, some fun decor that's charming, and some perfectly-prepared desserts; it's a winning combination.
The servers and other staff were very pleasant to talk to... they gave good opinions (that were spot on) when making some menu choices... and they served up some massive portions of fantastic food.
We drove from Knoxville, Tennessee to road-test our new (to us) car; we like trying random German restaurants.
I had the house special with potato salad to start. The potato salad was perfectly balanced and tasted very fresh. Once the special came out, the portion was the first massive plus... the second was the quality: pork perfectly tenderized and breaded, sauerkraut flavorful and just-right juicy, and their red-skin potatoes are possibly the best I've ever had at a dining establishment. Perfect mashed potatoes. For dessert, their cheesecake is a great rendition of the German variety, with rich cheese that's carefully prepared sitting between layers of perfectly moist cake with hints of lemon and anise.
Did I mention that we ate our fill and essentially had full meals to enjoy the next day?
The only knock: no stickers or magnets to add to our scrapbook and fridge to remind us of this great meal. (They did have some festive German-themed pins that we'll be making into a magnet.)
Thank you, folks. It was our pleasure dining in your excellent restaurant.
P.S.: they do carry some German-market treats and have some t-shirts for sale; didn't want to make it seem as if there was nothing to be...
Read moreTotal 0 for the ratings! We've been coming to this restaurant in Evans, Ga since retiring from the military in 1999. Always good service and food. We stopped in today for lunch. I ordered the jagersnitzel with the wrong gravy, brown. Immediately when the meal arrived, I informed the waitress and requested the white, explained why-allergies. She informed the cook/manager and said that I would have to order the meal again and pay for both! Even though it wasn't touched! The manager then said it was Ga law, called the police and said I could Google it when I asked to see the policy. I googled it and couldn't find this on any site. I did find content which states that, you must inform management immediately and they can either reimburse or replace the meal. The police arrived and said that they had never heard of that either, because what if there was something else wrong with the food. Normally it's sent back and corrected or replaced. We ended up just paying for 2 meals that were not eaten. Needless to say, we won't be returning to this...
